1966 330 help
I have been busting my butt on putting my 330 back in to running order .I removed all the brackets sandblasted the intake valve covers exhaust manifiolds .Painted it up to be presentable.
I was extremely cautious in scraping old gasket material off. While I had it all apart I replaced the Timing chain and gears.Had the waterpump rebuilt .I was surgical in my efforts.Everything got a nice coat of Oldsmobile gold. The brackets low gloss black.
I have been trying to get her to fire up now for 2 weeks.
Occasionally I get a very poor idle and a lot of black smoke.
When she does fire up I have black smoke coming out of the Oil Breather .It has filled my garage up so bad it like a plastic or styrafoam plant has caught fire.
I havent gone into the motor with exception of the timing chain.
My head is about ready to burst.
Any ideas.
Ron

Ron,
What is the history? Did the car run well previously? Did you remove the intake and exhaust manifolds when you sandblasted them? What media did you use the sandblast them? Has the oil and filter been changed? Black smoke like the carburetor is running rich (smell of fuel) or black/blue smoke like oil is burning? What do the plugs look like?

Sorry for the lack of information
It ran well..smooth that is
I did change all the fluids and filters as well both fuel and oil.
As for the timing hain ad gears I had a licensed mechanic do that. But you never know.
I did the sandblasting using an Aeospace grade Silica Sand.
And made sure everything was blown out and rinsed with Acetone to remove all the grease and oils prior to painting.
When we painted er up I think we may have gotten some paint in he cylinders as my mechanic pulled the plugs and cliamed it wouldnt be a problem.I thhink that may e my problem.I hope I am wrong.
This thing looks great on a flat bed . But it is getting expensive.
This owuld be my first year of nt standing on the curb watching te Detroit Woodward Dream Cruise. Finally done with Child support after 15 years .This is my new Child..

Black smoke is a rich fuel condition. But, judging by the work done I'd say your timing is way off. First two things that I'd suspect are the firing order is wrong or the distributor is 180 deg. out. If these check out OK then it's time to check the timing chain and gears.
