Fix for Edelbrock Clearance Problem

Well, here's the pic of the Edelbrock head that I had ground down and patched. No leaks but a pain in the *** all the same. This is the alternative to bending the pump arm and reworking the mount. You can see how far the head hangs over the block in the pic.

You would think with all the time and money the research and development morons at Edelbrock had to design a cylinder head, this would be the last thing that should be a problem.

Shortly after the heads went into production, I spent a little time picking the Design Engineer's brain. Definitely not a "moron", or even a "drunken blacksmith".

He designed it for use with the 400/425/455 block, in a stock configuration.

I'm hoping the heads were engineered correctly, they certainly cost enough. My beef with Edelbrock is if this is a well known "secret" at Edelbrock then why don't they put some sort of warning on the catalogue entry. I wonder how many people bought these heads and encountered this problem.

Stock configuration with the exception of actually bolting up a fuel pump where its supposed to go. Why didnt they put this disclaimer on their product?

If the fuel pump is supposed to clear the head on a 455, then why did I have to notch my head 1/8" to clear? I tried to different fuel pump manufactures and had the same problem with both of them.

You can probably see I have an aftermarket pump on my motor as well. It is a Holley and was the smallest diameter I could find. Edelbrock just needs to adress this problem. I called them and they said no cure for you. They had no answers to my questions as to why they don't put out a disclaimer, just that the heads fit. They acted as if they were unaware of the problem. They know now. BTW I called them a month ago when this problem popped up.

88 toupe. You should've picked the engineer's brain a little harder considering the heads didn't fit on a stock big block. Not even close. You are wrong again. Twit.

Glad you got it fixed. I ran into a little problem with my fuel pump's plumbing fittings hitting the head/pump but luckily mine swivels.
I may be using the 350 trans sooner than I thought. I just lost reverse gear in the bomber yesterday.

Post some more pics of the fix!! Looks like it was a nightmare.

Well I'm glad you have the trans in case. It helps to be qick on the net. I would just as soon forget about the fuel pump. To get pics I will have to remove the alternator. Ain't gonna happen! LOL I think I tol you in another post the car is getting a 3.73 as we speak. Should be done wed. The car relly needed it.

How many horsies are you squeaking out of that small block with those Ebrocks? Looks like you have some nice stuff on there.

Jeremy I have yet to put it on a dyno but will post the numbers when I get around to doing it. I've been told it's good for about 400. The car runs very good. Just like stock in the fact that all you have to do is tap the key and it fires. This I enjoy. I have had enough cars that are tempermental to the point you don't even want to drive them.

Here it is, in its original context, again:

Since my name (notwithstanding, the childish misspelling) is there, it would have been an act of discourtesy, if I had not responded.

Hard to "come back" when one has never left.

I am here, and I am not going anywhere. Deal with it.

What I am, or am not, has nothing to do with anything.

Here are two, plain and simple, facts:

You may not be going anywhere now but me thinks it's just a matter of time. Didn't you get kicked off of Oldspower? Have you perfected your irritance to the point that you go right to the edge of being kicked off a forum and then back off? Your still a bald, informationless skid mark on the face of the planet. That is a simple fact too.

You're right Joe. I'm off to Oldspower where I know that douchebag can't post. If you can, please delete everything associated with me on this forum. Good bye and good luck!
