Is there any plan to add the "Like" feature to CO?

I wonder if a "like" will trigger an e-mail to those following a post. That could get really annoying.

Can't say I recall if I've ever received an e-mail notification from FTE if someone instantiated the "Like" icon on any of my posts. Honestly, I don't know if anyone has ever clicked the Like icon on any of my FTE posts. Whether it triggers an e-mail notification depends how/if the icon is linked.
I posted this question in another thread. @Robb M. the IB rep commented on my question.
This adds a "Like" button to member's posts next to the "Report Post" option. If you want to see how it works check out the Ford Trucks Enthusiast forum (also owned by IB).

Jesse - Hold your horses big guy. The Like button on FTE is not next to the "Report Post" option, it exists as depicted below - last in-line icon of the Quote, Reply bar.
Ok, I moved the posts. Didn't mean to hijack the other thread.
No worries.
Right you are, Norm. On a desktop that's the way it looks, but on my Droid the Like button is next to Report Post.
Really? Didn't know that about the Droid. Speaking of which, I'll note there are peculiarities which likely are too complicated to address regarding GUI between iPhone & Droid in particular how it relates to viewing on a Mobile device if you're in View Full Web Site (parameters) assessing the site or limited Mobile device (not Full Web Site) application assessing the site.
I'm on an audio forum where the moderators are pretty cliquish as are some of the members. You can see, when there is a discussion, that some people side with one side, and some with others, and it is more about liking the person than the post.
I don't think we need a like button. It makes it too easy for a meaningless endorsement and we already have a method to like posts. Observe:

I agree with Ralph, 'likes' are dumb and it would be great if there was some bullshit button for people peddling manure.

From the above, people see that I like and agree with Ralph's point. It took a little more effort than simply smashing a button, and it probably will give better results as well as the motivational level to do it is higher (to type out a response).
A couple of years ago I would have said no because I felt that the probable result of adding a 'like button' would be to make us into a bunch of 13 year old girls. However, the feature has since been added to other sites I frequent and I find it a useful way to concur with or support another user's information or sentiment without making a redundant "what he said" post.

I am also a member of another forum and the other forum has the like feature. Like provides appreciation for sound advice.
Ask yourself: Do you care if someone else likes a post? Does anyone else care if you like a post?
I suspect that most people on this site would answer "They don't care" to both of those questions. The exception of course is the person that wrote the post. They might care and take notice.
Which brings the question up who is the like button for then?
Is it to stroke some peoples ego's and add feedback mechanism so people drive more content and engagement to this site? Maybe.... Or maybe it's just a like button.

Disagree. Like is one way to acknowledge sound technical advice.

Your making up your own meaning about what "Like" means. Do we really need to acknowledge sound technical advice? Don't most of us know who the brains are on this site?
If you want to acknowledge sound advice you could "Rate" the thread. How is "like" adding anything?
I'll tell you what since you want to "rate technical advice" why don't we add a "Don't like" (bullshit) button too?
In reality, I don't really care one way or another about the like button. Add it or not it won't change how I use the site.
If we are looking for something to enhance on this website it should be the parts wanted/parts for sale section.
We should look for a way to mark a post as sold so that it can be excluded from searches.
I think the " like" button will cut down interactive conversations. That is exactly what we DON'T want.
Makes to easy for a member to respond rather than get involved in the conversation.
Besides, others are correct, it gets annoying.
If you want to be "fair" you would also need a "Dislike" button for those who think a post is BS or wrong info or any other reason not to like someone's post. And down the rabbit hole you go. Likes and dislikes are purely subjective. If 180 people believe whatever someone says is wrong, even if they're technically right, now you try and validate something that is wrong or unpopular by saying "but 180 people can't be wrong". Which of course, is still possible. It's cool if 180 people like a post or dislike a post. Doesn't mean a thing. Might as well install a "IDGAF" button too, and for those who don't really GAF, they'll never press it.
Then you have the people who enjoy pressing buttons because they are there. It's there so it must be pressed. You know the ones. To me, like buttons don't really have meaning. It's an ego booster for those who need validation in their lives.
Liking or disliking something without further context is kinda silly to me. This is why you can reply to a post- to give any reason you wish some context. That's what the discussions are for in the first place, to bring different views and consensus to help solve problems, perform a task, to have some fun, or simply (fill in the blank). You may like some of the post, or most of the post, but not agree with all of it. So you can't press any button. You have to reply to explain. Or you can just pass on by.
I'll assume that if a "Like" button is added, that the site will also keep a tally of the number of "Likes" a user receives. I've referred to this on other sites to get a feel for the general credibility of the advice provided by a particular user.
I don't see how adding a "Like" button has any downside. CO is the only site I visit regularly that doesn't have one. If you don't feel there's a need for it, don't use it.
I visit this site for accurate and reliable information. I will offer solutions when I am certain its accurate and valid. If information is posted that is reliable and accurate, why does anyone else have to validate it with a "Like" button. Posts with incorrect information should most certainly be corrected with a post.
I am not interested in joining a "support group" that is validated by a "Like" button. If a "Like" button is important to people, they probably have them on Fakebook, X formerly known as Twitter, Instagram, etc. If you want to "express yourself" in a lazy way, you can click on the "smiley face" emoji and select one.
in past experiences in other forums, the likes havent been a validation thing. Its simply either as a quick way to say "thanks" for a question being answered (or similar), or if one person provides an answer/suggestion/whatever..its a way to quickly state aggreance (or in this instance, that you concur).
If people join forums for the clout that a "like" brings, then they're here for the wrong reason.

At the risk of running a joke into the ground, I like this. And if we had a "like" button, I wouldn't have to be making this redundant post.
