Is there a way for threads to open to "View first unread"

When opening a thread that I previously viewed, is there a way to configure the UI so that I always go to "View the first unread"?

Yes, I know there's a button you can press once you open the thread that accomplishes this:

What I am wondering if there is a user thread viewing option that can configured so this is done automatically.
The v8buick.com forum automatically scrolls you to your first unread message in the thread and I really like that. Is there a way to configure this on classicoldsmobile.com?

All threads open to View First Unread by default when you login. If you're already logged in & view a thread, you can either click New Posts (which will take you to View First Unread (by default); or, you can Backspace then click Refresh breadcrumb icon. This will then yield the last thread you opened plus additional View First Unread threads.

I might not have followed you completely in addressing your question (although I tried). With that said, ensure your thread display options are configured appropriately. Go to Your Control Panel>Edit Options then scroll through Thread Display Options.

This operating system will not do what the op asks. Thread display choices are either oldest or newest displayed first, either way you will probably have to scroll to continue where you left off.

First world problem, though.

If you hit the icon next to the thread title that I circled below, it will open directly to the first unread reply.

I don't know how accurate that icon is, I'll have to play with it. When I get done reading what I want to read, I always hit the "Mark forums read" pulldown before leaving the site, so I assume that would affect the newest post read operation.

It’s accurate. When ever I log I I always hit “New Posts” it is shows me every post since last time I logged on. Then I hit the icon next to the the thread title I want to read. If it’s a thread I haven’t read before it will take me to the first post, if I have read it in the past it takes me to the last read post. I don’t miss any threads and I don’t have to read posts on older threads over and over again. I thought that’s what everybody did.

To be honest I've never used that icon to find the newest post I've always just scrolled to it. It's nice to learn something new.

I'll point out, FWIW, those icons are referred to as "breadcrumbs" in web design UI parlance. Without puking up my own wording, I stole this accurate definition from the Internet.

Breadcrumbs form a design pattern that satisfies the users' needs by representing each visited level in the site hierarchy with a link, allowing users to jump to a particular page of contents or options instantly.
