1991 olds 88 royale
Having a problem. When I got the car it ran fine. Other day it started randomly stalling. Checked the ecm codes because engine light was on. It was throwing GM code 41. Which is usually a bad cam sensor. I just replaced the cam sensor, the interuptor and the crank sensor and reset the code. Even after replacing all those it's still having the same problem. What else could it be?

Welcome to the site... Other areas to check can include vacuum leaks, PCM grounds, fuel issue, or even possibly the O2 Sensor... If you don't have a 1991 Chassis Service Manual for your vehicle, I do have one available for sale...

Probably the cam sensor magnet. It sits in a little plastic cage that sits in a hole in the cam timing gear. You have to disassemble the whole front of the engine to get to it. It is a big PIA to replace a $12 part. You'll need an oil pan gasket.

I had a 1993 Buick LeSabre with a 3.8L V6 that was the same car. I recall I had to replace the ECM on it because I had a Quad Driver Module failure. I don't recall what code it was, but it was a pretty easy repair. Once I installed the new ECM it got rid of the code.

Could be the harmonic balancer. If it has a bunch of cracks in the rubber, it could be separating and giving a bad signal to the cam sensor. The balancer has a magnetic pick up to trigger the cam sensor upn each revolution. You tube has videos to help determine if this is a problem and how to replace which is not hard. Hope this site helps the original poster. Trent in Los Angeles.
