I just got an Oldsmoblie 98 on Monday. My Dad had one back in 1974 and I loved it. Looking for things to make it look nicer and some engine work. First is period correct black paint for it. Where to buy. A quart and maybe a spraycan. And who knows those engines? I have all the specs memorized but I don't know which parts are best. I want a different manifold but where to start? 3X2, 2x4? Brand name, open or dual plane? Anything that fits under the hood and I can hide under the big ULTRA HIGH COMPRESSION Air cleaner. Welcome to the site and thanks for your service. Just a note, we do like pictures. I prefer the single carb setups as the multi's are a bit of a pain in the butt to maintain a tune, especially here in Texas with the summer heat. A good dual plane is probably the best route to go and the stock 4v manifold is not bad although it weighs a ton.

Others may correct me if I am wrong here, but I suspect the "period correct black paint," called 'ebony' by Olds was an acrylic lacquer? Lacquer is hard to find these days. That said, here is a link with info/refs for Oldsmobile Ebony Black -

As for "souping up" the engine, as we used to say in the old days, you will find a lot of knowledgeable Oldsmobile hot rodders (mostly muscle car era guys) at this Olds site - http://http://realoldspower.prophpbb.com/

Any 3 x 2 or 2 4 bbl setup would have to be aftermarket. Did find this at Summit Racing -

Your 64 should have a 394 engine and was the last year of production of the first-gen Olds V8 that was introduced for the 1949 model year. The early Olds V8 was a popular hot-rod motor in the 1950s and early 1960s and there are lots of used aftermarket parts still available for it. The factory offered the 3x2 J2 setup in the 1957-58 model years, though that was on the 371 with a shorter deck height. That intake can be made to fit a 394 with spacers. Good luck.

 

Welcome to our site. I used to own a 1964 Oldsmobile 98 Luxury Sedan. It was a cool car but pretty far gone.

If you change your carburetor setup make sure you setup the throttle valve to your Slim Jim Roto Hydramatic correctly. Those transmissions tolerate no slop in the manual throttle valve.

 

Welcome aboard Steve, congratulations on your good taste in big Oldsmobiles. We would like to see some pictures of your car. If you don't already have one, buy a factory original shop manual set, this is the most valuable resource for any old car. Next, start using the search feature on this forum for all topics you are thinking about, there is a LOT of good info that has already been covered and a lot of experienced people whose knowledge you can draw on. Dave, that is a cool intake and the price isn't too outrageous either. If I still had my 64 98 that would be a cool toy to get.

 

There are many, many aftermarket intakes for the first gen Olds V8s.
