I installed headers and have the common issue of having to relocate the clutch return spring. The most common solution seems to be to install a clamp around a header pipe and attach the clutch spring to the clamp. This solution has the best geometry.

But, Has anyone had any header issues with that...because obviously there will be consistent tugging on the header with each shift?

The mini starter cannot accommodate the spring. Nor can the other locations in the manual...the side rail in front of the brake distribution block or the 6cyl setup attaching to the engine cross brace...the headers interfere with both setups.

I suppose a bracket could be fabricated and mounted to the starter mounting bolts, but it would need to be strong/stiff bracket to take the constant tugging.

I like the header solution best so long as it does not eventually cause an issue with the headers.

The spring isn't a return spring, it's called an 'anti-rattle' spring. I've used a hose clamp for this, but now connect the spring between the clutch fork and the bolt connecting the clutch adjuster to the Z bar

Any chance you can post a picture...I have ARH headers as well...
Just to be clear, I am referring to the clutch pedal return spring...between the fork and the side of a stock starter originally.

I called a local custom exhaust shop that has a very good reputation and talked to the owner. He confirmed that the header tube clamp is a good solution for the return spring...the spring tension would/should not adversely affect the headers. In fact he said that some headers used to provide a tab for a clutch spring.

I made a little angle bracket and screwed it to the frame cross member under the engine next to the starter. There already was a hole there that a self tapping fender screw/bolt went right into. Didn

I'll try to take a pic tomorrow, just visualize moving the spring end from the OEM starter location and moving it to the bolt on the Z bar, you'll need a spacer, but easy to do. BTW I'm running a mini starter, so it was either a header tube or Z bar location. This is works for me.
