Where to attach clutch return spring w/ Headers installed

You guys with Headers and 4spds, where does your clutch return spring attach?

---
I just got the z-bar installed and working on my '66, and was quite pleased with the fit of the Hooker Comp headers around it. No clearance needed for the z-bar at all.

The last thing i did last night after installing the header gaskets and final torque up on them was to install the starter- which origingally had a small bracket bolted to it that held the clutch return spring.

Wth the headers, there is no way that bracket would fit... Which lead to the question where to attach it now.

Thanks!
Ben

I would fabricate and bolt on a tab with a small hole to attach a spring. Springs come in many lengths.

I'm comfortable fabricating whatever is needed, but where exactly the bracket i fabricate should be attached "TO" is what i'm asking.

Its pretty tight (understatement) with the headers down there now and options of what to bolt to are limited, and i'm hesitant to attach a bracket to a header tube due to heat transfer to the spring (although this would be easiest).

that's why I asked what other folks running headers & 4 spds have done for this.

Exhaust manifolds have a ton of room under there and there are many options where to attach...

I use a Dorman spring and attach it to a piece of wire that I wrap around a header tube.

I used a type of hose clamp that has the old style screw and nut to compress the clamp....remove the screw and open the clamp and fit it around the header pipe at the level that you want the spring to be and replace the screw and nut to the rear of said pipe and hook the spring onto the screw...

I have resorted to wrapping the spring around the tube on the z-bar in a pinch. Pretty hack but it can get you by until you find a more elegant solution.

I fabbed a SS tab, which is attached to a header tube with a SS hose clamp.

thanks guys! Thats exactly what i needed to hear... Sounds like something attached to the header tube is the most used solution (and from what i can see under there nearly the only one anyway).

I just wanted some outside confirmation that a viable answer.
