1 piece oil pan gasket 455

Hello-
Thanks for taking time to read this. Does anyone know of a manufacturer of a one piece oil pan gasket for a 455cid ( 1973)?

I'm not aware of one. Note that all 1964-1990 Olds V8 oil pan gaskets interchange.

Thanks Joe I appreciate your reply, all V8 engines Oldsmobile 1964-1990 no matter the displacement share the same oil pan gasket? You would think someone would've come up with a form fit one piece gasket then, for so many vehicles able to use it.

All 1964-1990 Olds V8 blocks share the same architecture. The only substantive external difference between the small block and big block Olds motors is the deck height. Oil pan flange is the same, as is the gasket. The SBOs used a different pan, as did Toro motors, but the differences are in the overall shape. There are no differences in the gasket flange and SBO/BBO/Toro pans all can be swapped.

Have you any experience with The Right Stuff or Yamabond, as replacement for the multi-piece oil pan gasket?

The thing about the oil pan gasket that makes a one-piece gasket unlikely is that the flat portions along the pain "rails" require different characteristics than the portions that run transversely across the front and back of the engine and curve around the bearings.

That problem has been solved, Eric. FelPro and others sell a one-piece gasket for Type C engines. The reason no one makes them for Olds is that there isn't sufficient demand to justify the development and tooling cost.

Wow. I guess it's been a long time since I messed around with "those" engines.

That's kind of cool - eliminates the common leak points at the joints.

I've used those expensive 1 piece gaskets on type-C engines... and they leaked in both cases. We actually took one of them back off, used right stuff on both sides of it, re-installed, and it started seeping a year later again. I'm not sure if it was the gasket or the pan, but I wasn't overly impressed.

On the Olds engines, I've had decent luck with the steel core gasket that was referred to as the "diesel" pan gasket.... Fel Pro OS30471C. I use the Right Stuff on a lot of places (e.g. intake manifold end rails), though I can't say it's given me better results in preventing leaks on the oil pan. If nothing else, cleaning it up later sucks... it's tough.
