455 blue or gold?

Hi Everyone,
I inherited a 455 with J heads in my 66 cutlass. Please do not crindge but we are going to use it. I is a very solid motor and we are changing the dog J intake to a edilbrock preformer. My question is from an estectic and possible resale value do you think I should paint the engine olds bronze to fit the year 66 or should I paint it the electric blue that is correct for that motor.
the numbers I got off the block are. 396021F the heads 411783.
Have a great day.

I would say the decision is yours as to color. Since the engine is not a 330 it doesnt have to be gold unless you want it to look like the original engine color. If you want people to think at first glance the engine is a 330 then gold would due. If ya want people to realize that the engine is a 455 then 455 blue would be the ticket.

I agree with Oldsmaniac. The car isn't original, so paint it whatever color you want. Most people won't be able to tell the difference between an SBO and BBO, so gold is the "sleeper" option. Bronze would be appropriate if you're building a 442 clone since the 400 motor was bronze. Red was used on the 425s that year and on 455s through 1969, with blue used in 1970. It's entirely your call. Personally I like sleepers...

Thank you. I am leaning towards the gold myself. I just wanted to make sure that I was not commiting a cardinal sin.

How could the Pople commit a cardinal sin, it would be beneath you wouldn't it?

Go Red

Since you cast it as an aesthetic issue, I say go red. The red 455s rule (in aesthetics). (I couldn't find a red smiley)

What other people think?

I own a 72 cutlass but I also own a 49 ford truck and when I went to paint my fresh motor I got a lot of comment about what color to paint it. Pukey green, dull cream, bronze, and rouge which were the color choices at which I started to lean toward the bronze because it was a metalic color. but when it was finally time to paint it I didn't chose any of those and painted it blue saphire (purple) naturally a ford color but it was what I like (and nobody can say I follow the same crowd). So remember the color choice you make is for you and no one else.
Hope you have fun with the car when it is done

That would be ultimately REDNECK! I think if you shot an engine with primer it would bake off the instant you started the vehicle.
