ive got my 70’ 350 torn apart. The balancer that cane off of it is quite odd from others I’ve seen before and then what is on my 403 currently. Can anyone tell me what it’s from? Also should I reuse it or can I use the balancer from my 403 or get one of the “new” ones from rock etc..
Matt that looks exactly like the one I pulled from my 70 350, complete with spider egg sacs.
Yes its different that the 403 and other years too.
Yes, you could re-use it but it should be checked to be sure its stable, meaning the outer ring hasn't spun. Thats up to you.
You can buy new ones. They're available from most auto parts stores/websites. Your old one can also be rebuilt. Do some googling and look at your options.
Check out the identity of this balancer before you get rid of it. Not that I have ever seen one but it appears to be the one from a W31 350. If it is, it's worth much $$.
Thanks for info guys. Can I use the 403 balancer or should I use this one if it’s good? I don’t want to throw off balance of motor or anything. I know new ones they show same for all SBO for about $65. If I use this balancer will all my pulleys work ok still with belt alignment and such?
Olds must have been experimenting with different balancers. I have seen other pics of that style of balancer, wondering if manual trans cars got them or random? The W31 balancer is even larger, here is a pic.
I wish it was a W31 balancer I had, selling it would cover a huge chunk of my rebuild cost lol. I think I’m just going to go with one of the new dayco for $60. I just wanted to make sure the 350 didn’t have some certain special balancer.
Is the crank pulley same for all SBO?
