Hello, I have a friend who is changing his bench seat in his 69 Cutlass S over to buckets. He has a pair of original buckets from I think a 70 Cutlass. I will be doing all the work for him and have never had to do this kind a of swap before. I believe the buckets and how they mount are all the same from 69-72 correct? . The Bucket seats are complete with frame rails etc.. What I don't know about is the mount/brackets on the floor board for the buckets vs the Bench?. Will I have to make 4 new mounts for the bucket seat bracket to bolt too? Or is it just the front inside that takes the small mount/brackets? Can I use the 2 mounts for the bench that are already there and add 2 new ones on the inside?? He also has of course the original carpet for a bench seat car. Will we have to change the carpet out? I have access to several Olds Cutlass's so can I take the floor mounts off the floor on one of those or are they welded as I presume they are to the floor? Or is it best to get the mounts through after market. Thanks in advance for any and all info.

All 1966-72 are the same. The mounting brackets are the same as for a Chevelle. EVERYBODY sells repros. They must be welded to the floor pan. Here is a how-to article.

Sorry, but a bench seat with a column shift AT is a grandma car.
Now, a bench seat with a four speed is cool!
Floor shifted automatics are compensating poseurs and I'm not converting the car to stick. I own three column shifted automatics, one five speed standard transmission, and one 73 Ford Econoline Club Wagon with column shifted 3 speed standard transmission, and IT has bucket seats for the very good reason of there being a Ford 302 in between them.
Edit: I'm 6'4". I do not need my nooky in the back seat of my two A bodies with bench and column automatic when getting it in the front seat is JUST FINE, thank you!

The H/O has a dual gate because it has to. The two 1985s ARE grandma cars. The Vista keeps a column shifted AT because it's a wagon. The rest either already are manual trans or will become so.

Good answer here to a question I had not asked yet.
I've been casually shopping for a cutlass for the wife. However it's occurred to me that a bench seat car may be a real problem. She's 5'0" and if she's driving that means I'll be mashed into the glove box. Converting to buckets would be a must.
The bench seat mounts are the same for bucket, need to add the inner mounts
To replace a power bench, the outer mountings must be changed. As Johnny said, inner mounts need to be added for buckets--these are the same for power and non-power buckets.
once you have made a car UNoriginal, you cannot UNDO that. the older i get the more appreciate that fact. that is why survivor cars are going for such big bucks, as nice as you might make a "frame off" restoration you simply cannot restore original.
Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, my bench is gone and I bought the car with bucket installed, but only fastened at rocker sides. I either have to add brackets or find a bench. I do like the open feeling of the buckets, especially in a convertible.

Yea Baby! Granny cars rule. Not only is mine staying a column shift but I'll be installing the tilt column shift I picked up a while back soon and a power bench option.
My friend that passed had a green 66' Belvedere with a column shift plaid tan interior numbers matching 426 Hemi. Now that's one heck of a church goer. He sold it to someone in Australia about 8 years ago. Guess he had that same outlook. He build a 69' GTX Hemi 4 speed, Hemi car non numbers matching and was almost done with a 68' GTX Hemi 4 speed, Hemi car non numbers matching. I should have went in the body business like him, I'd have a whole tribe of Oldsmobiles now.
