Need cam selection help for a 455......
About a year ago I lucked into a few Oldsmobile 455 parts and am putting together a stout motor for my 71 442. Here's what I got...
60 over Ross forged pistons and pins
Polished rods.
Crane roller rockers
C heads with stainless valves and a decent porting job.
455 block bore 60 over with oil restrictors installed.
Both a holley street domminator and edelbrock single plane intakes.
As far as the car and streetability, I am not toworried about taking it on the highway or power tour etc. I have a rear with 4:33 gears and also one with 3:90 gears that needs to be rebuilt. I plan on staring out with the 4:33s and later rebuilding the 3:90 (as budget allows) as an optional rear. Plan on running a 3200-3500 stall. I want a full interior boulevard bruiser that I can take to local car shows and have a little fun with every now and again. Again, this isn't going to be a daily driver or long haul vehical. I'm trying to create a bad to the bone barely streetable muscle car similar to what youth was doing to w30 and ls6 chevelles in the early seventies. Anything to go fast using compression gear and can like in that era. Tranny is a turbo 400. I'm somewhat on a budget and that would tens to keep me away from the higher priced roller cams. Also, not into adjusting valve lash ever so often so I want to stay away from solid lifter mechanicals too. Again, I know that there is a compromise between street ability and performance and I'm OK with that. I'm also in the mile high city of Denver so we can run a little more compression up here. I am open to any and all advice on camshaft selection. Please shower me with your thoughts. Also, my variables are somewhat vague, please let me know if there is more info you would like me to provide.

What's the model or part number on the pistons? If you can get about 10.0 to 10.2 CR, I would recommend Howard's Cams pn 511251-08.
299/307, 245/253, .544/.560, 108 LSA
It should have the Street Hero characteristics you're looking for. Drop the stock rods and invest in some aftermarket ones. You'll need them if you plan on revving this motor were it will want to go.
