Angry Msd al6-2 programmable box

Hooked up my brand new ignition system, all msd.

Msd distributor
Msd coil
Msd al6-2 programmable box
All brand new stuff!

It's not getting spark! Double and triple checked everything even had our shop foreman come over and check it all out.

Did MSD's trouble shooting test
Swapped coil with a known good one
Checked wiring
Checked connections
Still no spark! Gonna send the box back to MSD it's brand new and it failed.

Has anyone else had this or a similar problem?
If you google these boxes there is an aweful lot post's/write ups about these boxes failing.

Can't even start my new motor!

Steve..

Sorry to hear about your woes Steve. I hope MSD will make it right for you. This is one of the (dreaded) reasons I prefer to stay with stock ignition on my car.

I was a little surprised by your comment:
If you google these boxes there is an aweful lot post's/write ups about these boxes failing
I'm guessing you didn't google this product before ordering, and that the failure is what instigated the search? Might be a good idea to steer towards a different product for your ignition if your confidence has been eroded by a negative experience.

Your correct Allan once I had no spark I hit the internet but I heard the same about all the manufactures, quality has gone downhill since it's all made overseas.

I'll keep you guys posted....

It's a pretty simple hookup. Which MSD dist. are you using?

Are you positive you have power directly from the battery to the proper wire, that it is properly grounded, and that you have the on/off wired to a keyed source that is on when cranking?

Seen these articles? I've also seen where some fakes have nothing more than a HEI module inside the MSD case. Unfortunately I've heard the story about MSD stuff failing all too often.

Steve, where did you buy your MSD from? Is it one of the fake ones or have you already sent it away?

Good luck with that. What's wrong with the distributor you have in your car now? If your engine is stock, this will not enhance your starting, driving or performance. It does offer the convenience of not having to adjust the points as needed, but also means you can no longer run your stock air cleaner either. Your call, it's your car. As far as opinions? Mine is don't waste your money on it.

Hopefully this will be plug and play. I'm always leery of the deals like this on ePay though, especially when there's no brand name mentioned. I went back and looked at your threads, which builder did you use, and why didn't they install a distributor as part of the build? Or did they reinstall the old one and you're just changing it now?

They installed the old one. I use NTX out of Farmers Branch. Wanted to change it out. I've heard good things about these guys.

Steve, did you mention your concerns about bogus msd al6 modules? Hopefully he's going to pre-test the one he's sending to make sure it's good?
