Electric powered

I own a 1988 Mustang LX Hatch I plan on electrifying one of these days, it's a 2.8L 4 cylinder that still manages about 28-30 mpg on the highway.

I have been doing my homework and a 9" inch motor out of a forklift doesn't require alot of modifying to bolt right up to the 5 spd that's in the car already.

The video of the pinto below runs the same as my Omega's best ET without Nitrous, but then again he's using two 9" inch motors.

That is pretty good performance from electric. Electric motors have lots and lots of torque that's why they use them a lot in industrial applications, if a person could only get around the large number of batteries needed to use them in a vehicle he would be golden.

I'm going to build the speed controller myself.

My goal with the Mustang is to build it for range rather than acceleration, top speed will only be around 50-55 mph. I want it to have a 60-100 mile range and I will recharge it using a homemade wind generator and commercially available solar panels.

Here's a few links to some other electric cars, first two are of the world quickest street legal electric car and the last one is an electric powered dragster that I heard is now running 7.20s @ 175 mph but I can't find any video.

wow , I work around electric motors everyday and had no idea they could produce that much power if given enough juice to do so . Very impressive SBO and cool project .... Is that David Lee Roth in your avatar ?
