Single vs Dual plane
Single vs Dual plane
Hey all! Got this motor together finally and running. cleaned and went through a 350, nothing fancy. A local guy had a holley street dominator single plane intake for it, so i mounted that up. At the time, I figured the low end wouldnt have a substantial loss, just not as much of a low end gain as a dual plane. As i get closer to getting this car on the road, i am further questioning if this single plane, although cheap and certainly a good find, will be a poor choice for this engine. Anyone have any experience with this intake?? should I be prepared for a low end turd?
if your motor is otherwise stock but for a 4bbl conversion, I don't know that you'll see an overly impressive result - presumably some just by reason of the conversion, but the low rise dual plane has typically been most recommended for the most immediately noticeable low-end performance gain. Still if you got it on the cheap, should definitely see what it will do for you before worrying about another swap.
If you find my wirte up, about a big block Olds, but these are essentially the same engines, you will see that old Edelbrock manifold performed the best, but the Performer, Torker and Street Dominator performed very similar to each other. They all out performed a stock cast iron mainfold. While I hope to repeat this on a small block, the mainfolds are very similar. Even with a smaller camshaft the Street Dominator did very well and was only out performed by the O4B. So I don't think you will have too much to worry about.
