Q&A on Dyno day
I posted this on FB but I know some of you don’t frequent that site so I thought I’d post it here.
Attached are two Dyno sheets. The 500hp one had an 850 Brawler carb, Gen 1 Edelbrocks, just under 10.0:1 compression and a 232/240@.050 Hyd roller.
The 420hp build had a QF 830, 9.75:1, 236/242@.050 Hyd roller and out of the box Procomp/Speedmaster heads.
So, the question is, what are the Cubic inches/platform of each build? If you saw this on FB hang tight please as I’ve already answered it there.
Let the fun begin, thanks!

Ok here you go.
The first one was a 461 BBO built by an “Olds” guy located about an hour east of me here in Central Fl. It had shorty Thornton headers and a Torker intake. This was the second time it was on my Dyno. The first time was about 2 months earlier when it took out most of the mains in about 15 min. The original builder doesn’t stand by his work so the guy had to pay for too many things again. Plus the combo was initially configured by the original builder. He told the owner it would make 500hp. As you can see it wasn’t even close. He took it somewhere else to fix as I just couldn’t squeeze him in based on his desired time schedule. Unfortunately in the end though he paid for it in a bad way. In addition I can tell you without hesitation that the shorty headers and out of the box Procomps don’t work well. I’ve done virtually this same combo with better heads and full length headers a bunch of times. Those routinely make 505-510.
Footnote; after further conversations, the original builder did in fact offer to repair the issues on the 461. However the owner of that engine decided to go in a different direction.
The second one is a 428ci SBO gas block Stroker. It had an RPM intake and my regular Dyno headers. I didn’t spend a whole lot of time tuning it as it’s getting a Sniper Stealth once they’re available again, so needless to say I’m confident there’s more in it. However it’s been my experience that it’ll lose approx 10hp. in the transition.
The FB page this is on is “Oldsmobile Performance Engines”. I plan on posting more there and here as I’ll be back to doing more comparison type scenarios.
Hope this helps, thanks!!!

Who is "Olds guy"? He’s an Olds enthusiast in east central Florida. I’ll bet others in the area know who I’m referring to
What did the 461 do prior? 376 before the mains started to go south. Yes, align hone was never done but paid for. Crank had about .0015 bearing clearance.
Was that the 500 after? Huh? The 420hp was the final number on the 461. And how you don’t even make at least 500tq on a 455 is beyond me.
