I have the short ones but they don't have a taper to seat down into the trunnion on these rockers. Its finding short ones with that taper that I'm coming up empty on finding.
Oh yeah I'm aware but they sure do charge $$$ for those! If I can't find the short tapered polylocks I'll probably go with some spacers or the cheapy chrome tall Valve covers.
whats the max width of the rocker in the trunnion on those ? and they have a recessed step.

sounds like the lash was excessive. That’ll break the adjuster cup before anything else. If it wasn’t then maybe they were floating which will also break the cup.
running to short of a pushrod can also break the cup if there is anything more than the max lash..because the cup is way out of its socket depth which gets into bad angularity.
that type of adjuster/rocker should only be about one full turn out from fully back seated
you’re absolutely right!!
I actually had to work on my valve train geometry and I found that my existing push rods were almost 3/8 of an inch too short! So I ordered new push rods after I bought a push rod adjuster and digital caliper. Now the engine is running great!

I'll be running a Motorsport 1.6 roller rocker on my 403 and also a speedmaster adjustable cup pedestal mount rocker on a 350. The 350 has a a single performance spring on it and a mild-ish cam. I'll keep my eye out on how long it lasts. Hopefully more than the previous poster.

when you figure out pushrod length, make sure the adjuster screw is only out one to one& half turns max from fully back seated.
Staying under a stock valve cover while still running a beefed up valvetrain
I use the Crower 7/8" shorty polylocks on my builds to stay under a stock valve cover, clearing the factory breather / PCV baffles just fine - no need for taller / long polylocks in most cases if the rocker stud installed lengths are where they should be. The 6 point hex tops clear the main bodies of most all aftermarket rockers (but note that this depends upon the lengths of the rocker studs which I edit if / as needed, or source alternates with different dimensions). Please don't take my word for it as gospel - always check for proper clearances by running the rocker arms through their full range of motion to make sure they don't interfere with the tops of shorter polylocks at any point. I have also occasionally swapped out the Allen set screws for slightly shorter variants that sit just a bit deeper into the tops of the polylocks and / or shortened the tops of the rocker studs a hair to achieve the same net end result in a few builds.
If you look closely at the end of the polylock on the right in the picture, you will see that I turn down the diameter just enough to cleanly seat inside the rocker arm trunnions if / as needed. I was recently REALLY surprised when the last set of the Speedmaster PCE261.1199 1.7 rockers received went right into one of the latest Olds big blocks I built without having to do this mod to reduce the OD's at the ends of polylocks that seat into the rocker. Apparently, somebody over there received enough feedback to have implemented the increase in the trunnion polylock seat sizing to .620" which makes the OD of the Crower shorty polylocks at .598" a drop-in plug n play. The last time I spoke with them, I DID mention this problem to them (polylock seats being smallish), and it looks like *maybe* they actually looked into it and implemented the change.

use a pushrod length checker to get it right
Yeah, I had to check and recheck. Ended up running out of shims and had to "customize" some washers....ha. When I disassemble Fords, I take the pedestals so I have a stockpile. With the Motorsport ones or less expensive Scorpions for Fords, it's just hard to justify going really cheap on speedmaster or really expensive on HS for a street build and soft-ish spring.
