So i figured out the direction I am going on my 455
going to do a stock rebuild well stockish going to have the block cleaned and checked and hopefully just honed, now before everyone goes off about the pistons, I am going to go with
on the lower and new aluminum heads and a bigger roller cam and lifters.

I am going to paint the aluminum intake Bronze so I thought the bolt kit would make a nice looking addition

Uh, if you are going so far as aluminum heads and roller cam, you should use better pistons. I am not sure why you are so adamant about using those mondo heavy Speed Pros. It's your build, but you should look at better pistons if you are really serious about making power.

They seemed to be priced right for a forged piston, I really do not want replace the pistons but due compression issues I may have to replace them
Don’t use that piston. Save your pennies and get better ones.
And as discussed, don’t waste your money on the stock rods. By the time you buy new bolts, recon them, then pay to press off the old piston and press on the new ones, you’re 75% to the price of a set of Eagles.

what he said!! Don’t skimp on the bottom end. Those speed-pro pistons are HEAVY!! The factory rods leave much to be desired. Build the short block stout, then you you can always upgrade later. The stock rods go out of round user hard use,doesn’t really matter what you do to them. By the time you spend the money to resize and install new bolts and other machine work your not far from the cost of good aftermarket rods, that are lighter and stronger.

you can have a higher compression engine if you are using aluminum heads typically. Hopefully more of the guys that do a lot of the engine building chime in. If you are going through all this trouble might as well run a better piston.

Going against the grain here . . . . . I don't see a problem with the Speed Pro / TRW pistons. The newer ones are actually a lot lighter than the old 70's stuff. I can check the weight in the morning at the shop. The only thing about them is that they are a little overpriced in my opinion. I would rather use them compared to used stuff especially those old Venolia slugs.
I agree with the others on the rods. By the time you buy a set of ARP bolts and have the rods resized you would be much better off putting that money towards a set of new aftermarket rods.
Price a set of speed pro pistons with rings out against a set of Mahle piston and rings.
You need to have a budget and a plan and build it once not two and three times.
