MSd Olds Plug n Play no limiter?
Hi Folks: I;ve been fighting with a brand new MSD Pro Billet Plug n play for Olds Big Block. I followed the instructions to a tee, but the rev limiter would not take??? I sent the unit back to MSD, but it did not get repaired?? My mechanic suggested going with an external Circle track rev-limiter, which I bought, with no help from MSD?? It now works like a charm, but it would have been nice to get some feedback or help from MSD??? I am thinking it is a Chinese knock-off, but they didn't admit to that?? I pulled full price for this Dissy from a reputable Speed Shop.

Is it a 6AL box? I assume its matched to the distributor part number? If so whats the range resolution on the limit? You need clean dedicated grounds on the MSD systems. What did MSDs tech line say?

The Pro Billet Plug n Play don't need a 6AL box, the rev limiter is advertised as internal. MSD Tech line left me hanging about a year ago??? The limiter goes from 3000-10000 RPM. Works slick now that we've installed the CT2727RL. Would have been nice to know this up front and would have saved me from cooking my old Mallory built in rev limiter tach. Wayns

I have drag raced Oldsmobiles for several decades as long as several other brands and I can tell you that power-shifting a built 455 you pray not to blow a driveshaft because this engine will peak so quickly you won't have a chance to catch it. My rev limiters have saved me on several occasions at the track, 3 blown driveshafts, two Muncies, I 12 bolt differential yoke, one clutch, each one could have led to it scattering??

Interesting piece and stand alone. Do you run it inside the engine compartment or inside the cabin? Not that I need one.

Yes you run it under the hood, away from heat, and so you can see the read-out, and tattle-tale features. Easy to adjust, and the soft-touch is subtle, not the bone shaker that the old Mallory limiters were.
