Plug and Play Performance Distributor

I'm currently running a Mallory 85 series HEI with vacuum advance. I'm running into some issues with a misfire under load around 2700+ RPM. I think my HEI is starting to fail. Parts to rebuild with cap, rotor, pickup, and coil, are not much less than buying a new one.

My question is what distributors are you guys running, doesn't necessarily have to be an HEI. Don't need any external boxes.

Eric, what generation is the engine in your Cutlass? I was trying to look at Summit but I don't know much about you're engine except make and displacement. Seemed like the MSD ready to run units were about $250 depending on generation etc.

It's a 72, but I don't think I need all that hi tech BS right now. I was actually thinking on going back to points. The HEI has been a ok since I fired it up, granted it was used when I got it, but like I said above, I can buy a brandy new shiney one for what the parts cost.

The curve seems ok, I can set it at 18 initial and it max's out at 34.

Ok, got an MSD Streetfire for the time being. Set at 34* @ 3500 Rpm, which put my initial @ 16. Back in the saddle again, no pinging or surging with the 17* vacuum advance can.

Checked over my old Mallory 85 and it seems it may be good after all, apparently the last time I had the cap off, it seems that it is a little deformed and did not seat all the way. Everything seemed to check ok, so I believe that was my problem. Some time down the road, I'll get a new cap and rotor clean it up and run it as a spare.

Davis Unified Ignitions (D.U.I.) makes a nice replacement HEI.
