Dyno Testing Status

So, after 700 dyno pulls it appears that a seal in the dyno absorber has failed and we can no longer make any dyno pulls at this time. Will talk to SuperFlow Monday and see how long to get it fixed. No idea how long.

Ironically we were testing the lowest HP combination, the auto cam in the 1970 W-30 engine.

We did get the C heads with the exhaust cross over filled tested.
We did test the 1970 actual W-30 manual engine, meaning F heads and aluminum intake manifold.
We did get some bolt on done, headers, intake carb, on the above motor.
We did run the Tri_Power set up with the above motor.
We swapped in the automatic cam and got 1.5 pulls in and the dyno had an issue.

We have flowed a bunch more heads, and will perform more head work over the next few days. I need to work on some stuff here at the shop to clean up my stuff.

I will keep the group posted as to when we will resume testing.

But of course, Murphy's Law. Breaking down when the most common and indirectly because of that distinction. The most important test was yet to come.

By the way Jerry I want to thank you for this series of tests and your contributions to this site as a whole.

Looking forward to when the dyno is up and running again.

As an update the issue with the dyno was a servo control board. It clearly blew a power transistor apart and let out a significant amount of smoke. The board is off to SuperFlow to be repaired. No idea on it's return. I will return up here on 9/13 (I am leaving the morning of 9/2). I plan to perform a write up of what we did and learned, not sure if I'll call it part 7 or 6b. Of course our testing continues to take us places that we didn't expect, but I'll cover all of that in the write up.

Jerry--

Huge thanks for all the work you’ve put into this project. As an inquisitive guy, it’s incredibly rewarding to read through your findings and see how each change translates into real numbers. No conjecture, no marketing gimmicks—just solid data.

I’m especially looking forward to the W-30/F results with the different configurations you’ve been running.

So far I’ve tracked down your posts labeled 1, 4, 5, and 6—where can I find 2 and 3?

And hopefully that dyno repair doesn’t end up costing you an arm and a leg.

Safe travels on your cross-country trip!

send me an email at jerry@tandjw.com and I’ll email them to you and add you the distribution list.

i made it home, which is good. Have stuff going on here.

the board is under warranty, so only cost was shipping to CO!

Thanks Jerry,
Your dyno testing work is awesome, I am surprised that seemingly very few CO members are interested, I will support your work, email sent.

Jerry doesn't post on Facebook, only on CO. You are seeing the original content here, first.

You can read his reports here and draw your own conclusions.

Facebook has a lot of conjecture and opinion that may be accurate. Or not.

Errant discussion on CO is subject to correction by cranky Old-sters with long experience.

But Facebook has VOLUME.

VC455 is absolutely correct ! People come here with myths and totally bogus information from doing "Research". They usually have trouble accepting facts here because they"heard it first some where else". Correction of misinformation is common here when it in correct.

As far as NHRA Pro stock, Top Fuel Dragster and Funny car classes, they are generally the only things televised. These are the maximum income producers. These are 16 car fields that can be televised in a certain block of time. You don't see the two days of runs and time trials to make that 16 car field.
