Rear brake drum Strut

Guys, any idea where I can get 2 NEW rear Brake Drum Struts, as you can see by the picture mine has fallen off and damaged due to a broken spring I think. Thank you in advance.

Forgot to mention it’s a 66 Dynamic 88. Sorry

I doubt you'll find new ones as those are not wear parts, so there'd be no market for new ones to justify any manufacturer spending the money to produce them. You'll have to find one from a junkyard car. I have to believe someone on this site has one and will respond.

I think it would be helpful to name the year and model of your car.

Good used is probably your only option - that or cutting a new one out of a piece of steel plate. The A-body brake parts are reproduced because those cars are popular to restore. Olds full size, not so much. If it helps, the OEM part number for this strut is 5463275 and it was used on all 1965-1970 Olds full size cars except the 65-66 Jetstar 88 (which used the smaller A-body brakes). 5463275 was also used on 1966-75 Toronados.

I may have it; parted a '67 Delmont and a '67 Toro. Can you measure the other side and post dimensions? Thanks, Bob.

Thanks Bob. I will measure the drivers side this week.

Kanter carries brake hardware kits. I didn't get a hit for a 66 Dynamic 88 though. If you can't find the parts it might be worth contacting them. They changed their site since the last time I looked at it. The only problem is that the parts would be straight from China if they had them.

Rear Brake Strut

Thanks for all the replies guys, I am very grateful.

I have managed to straighten out the old one as you can see by the picture. It's about 7 & a 1/4" in length for the guys who may have some lying around. What I can't work out is this strut seems to be a bit short and not sitting into the recess on the brake shoes enough when the small spring is pushing against the brake shoe thus why I think it fell down and got mangled. Either the NEW brake shoes that were supplied with the car are cheap manufactured rubbish or this strut is wrong in the first place. There just does not seem to be enough depth for the brake shoe to sit snug in there and when I apply the parking brake it slips off and falls down, the drivers side seems to be the same, crap shoes, who knows.

It's pretty hard to mess up a bent piece of metal with notches in it no matter where it's made. I'm guessing that even the Chinese can get that right.

Hopefully. I guess I threw that out there just in case someone reading my post wanted only OE parts. I suppose you might be able to find NOS brake hardware if you searched long enough.

Being OE and where it's made are two different things. Something can be made in America but not be OE. By the same token, something could be made in China and be OE, if it's something that was made in China originally.

The image of the one you straightened out doesn't match the illustration in your 1st post. The end opposite where the spring goes has a much wider notch in it, similar to others that I have worked with that go over the brake shoe, as well as, the arm that attaches to the cable.

...and...the picture Thebaron shows from the Service Manual indicates that the part SHOULD HAVE a "step" or bend on each end of the piece. Your now-straightened piece does not have that.
