Does anyone know where I can get a water pump for my 67 442. Has the 400 cid engine and has A/C. I would appreciate any help, New or rebuilt pump is ok. Thanks Bob

 

If you haven't found it already, the casting number for the water pump for your car should be 384786. I would look for cores on this site (parts for sale) and I'd also check ebay. I found two correct water pump cores for my '68 and '69 on ebay, each for a decent price including shipping. I got them rebuilt near where I live and they have been on my cars since then.

Fusick has a rebuilt "original" on eBay, but it's a bit pricey and includes some pitting. If originality isn't important, they have a rebuilt "not original" for $56 less in their catalog. Be careful; the pump only correctly fits the 1965-67 400 & 425 with A/C. The flange height should be about 5.07-5.09". The part number should be 388183. Shop around. If you have a source for the bearing and seal, have a press and a bit of talent, you can rebuild your old one assuming the casting and impeller are O.K.

 

I have several Carquest rebuilt pumps for 66-7 that I bought some years ago, NOS. Different castings and stamped vs. cast impellers. I have been using one of them for some years with no issues.

I have a 20 ton press but I was unable to get the cast impeller off the shaft of a pump I tried to dismantle - it looked as if the impeller would break before it come off the shaft. I spoke with an industrial water pump rebuild shop and they said they drill the shaft out to preserve the impeller, so that would mean locating a new shaft as well as bearing and seals (which I was never able to locate).

 

It seems i bought a rebuilt for my 67 at Advanced Auto. I sent the original GM one to O&G Pumps in Lubbock, Tx for rebuild, it wasnt cheap, but its done.
