455 Heads

Howdy Folks,

I'm a relatively new member of the Olds Family and I am working on putting the 455 I bought together.

I've currently got a set of bare J heads and in my mind the value proposition isn't there for rebuilding them. I don't actually have big power in mind but they are in pretty ratty shape and rather than throw good parts at bad castings I'd rather just buy a set of used heads. The whole restricted exhaust offends my engineering sensibilities as well :P

I'm not looking for anything particularly nice really, just nicer than stock J heads. Preferably something already assembled. I've got a soft budget of $500 but for a smoking deal I'd certainly consider upping it.

Maybe there's nothing out there for 5 bills, but it can't hurt to ask! So show me what you got!

Does your $500 budget cover just the heads (FYI, good cores can be had for $200 a pair) or heads ready to bolt on? If you really are planning to spend $500 on cores and THEN have them built, I'd strongly suggest you look into a set of aluminum ProComps as ported by Bernard Mondello. I think these are going for around $1400-1500 a pair these days, ready to run, but that is money well spent.

I have numerous big block heads, from "A"-"J", excluding the exotics (D, F, H). Email me if interested. Thanks, Bob.

Plan was assembled and ready to run. I'd definitely considered going the core then build route as well but but I'm not planning on this car being fast so it seemed like the value proposition was a lil iffy.

I just got my 350 heads from Bob ROCKETMAN269V and had his shop rebuild them so they were ready to bolt on when they arrived. Good experience overall and in your price range.

Thanks Dane. It was a real pleasure dealing with you, in spite of Fastenal misplacing the heads.

I'm doing great. thanks. Glad to hear your car is done. I am going to really change my 67 this fall. Going with the Old Mondello motor I have had for years will freshen it up a bit first and changing to a 4 speed. Looking forward to that.

Happy 4th

Larry
