Sport Steering Wheel horn plunger..

I am not 100% sure what its called but its the contact between the button and the column. Its not the same as a regular steering wheel with the spring and the spade connector, I think its some sort of plunger deal.

Its for a 1981 Delta

I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

John

Hi John
I think this is what you need. They're on ebay all the time. I've got step by step photos of removing a sport wheel on my photobucket site. The link below is it. Let me know if you have any questions. John

I get mine at the local GM dealer. Last year I paid $4 for one from them.

Yeah I did some research last night. They all LOOK the same, however not many are listing for Oldsmobile. They are rather cheap though. $6.50 on Ebay so far, but they didn't list a part number for me to research.

I'll keep digging.

They look the same 'cause they are the same. Part #474102. Go here
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm
You can search any GM part # and find if it it still in the GM parts chain, it will not tell you if some dealer has it in stock, that info needs to be searched by a dealer.
I keep 1 or 2 of these in my parts stash.

Thanks for the P/N. I am aware of GMpartsdirect though, but it wasn't helpful with no P/N.

Sadly all the the dealers in my area sell at full retail and offer NO discounts. I can still get parts cheaper from GMparts even with the HUGE shipping charges.

I have a question for 2blu442...The sport wheel and horn on my 72 works, but has a couple issues. The horn button can't be adjusted straight. It only turns so far, then will fall off if pushed further. Plus, I had to run a jumper wire to the horn contact to make it work. I bought the contact, horn button and all related parts from Fusick and use on an original factory 72 wheel.

I noticed on your pictures that the canceling cam (?), the white shaft that sticks out at about 2:00. If memory serves me, mine is located on the left side. Any ideas, and does that matter?

For your '72 the white canceling cam shaft will be on the left side at the 9:00-10:00 position. It's the only way it will fit and function properly on a 70-72.

Your problem on the button not lining up is the emblem not clocked properly. The originals had a slot in the emblem and a corresponding tab made into the button so they fit and clocked properly. The repro emblem has the notch but the button has no tab, you need to work it into the proper location.
