Hi, does anyone have a console light switch for a 70-72 cutlass? The one that I have the threads are stripped in the starting area where the nut screws on.

Thanks but I believe they are a different switch. Still looking for a used console light switch.

These don't have a nut on the bottom side that I know of. It just screws into the plastic liner. Not sure what the repops run but I get $20 shipped for used ones. I have a couple left.

Mine did come with a nut (as shown) and mine does not screw in - it is retained only by the switch and nut. I appreciate the replies.

There's nothing wrong with your console light switch and no, it's not "stripped out". That is how they are made with the smoother "transition" threads at the bottom of the threaded portion. Why???.....because the switch was installed/threaded INTO PLASTIC (the plastic console liners) and the area you refer to as stripped out was purposefully made to make threading the switch into the plastic console liner a lot easier.

What is stripped out on your car is the console liner plastic inserts....the hole in the plastic can get enlarged/stripped from overtightening the switch.

Factory did not use a nut on the backside of these switches....someone must have added that.

Any replacement switch you get will have the same smoother-threaded feature at the bottom of the threads.

Fix the plastic around the console liner insert and you will fix the problem.

Thank you very much for the explanation. You saved me from buying another one that would have not worked - much gratitude to you sir.
