I think you can cut your existing one. I'm pretty sure I saw it in either the 71 factory service manual or maybe the assembly manual.( where & how to cut it ,etc)

Split lower vent

I have a couple of the factory split lower vents. Email me to discuss: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

Rocketman,
I think he means the lap cooler. The long piece at the bottom of the dash with the 2 moveable vents.

DAH!! I wondered why anyone would go through the trouble to modify one like I posted. Thanks Scott.

Thanks for the replies guys. To clarify it is the split lower ac vent, 2 pieces, used in conjunction with the factory 8 track player. Might consider modifying my existing single piece if I can't locate a factory original.

You can cut the original.

Somewhere in my collection I have a diagram showing where from each end to cut your long original to cut out the section occupied by the 8-track. If someone doesn't have a set for sale I'll dig up the diagram.

Send Randy a PM. He deals with these 8 track units all the time. I believe he has the template he can share with you showing where to cut a lower dash valence to accommodate the 8 track. His CO name is W70442. Here is his contact link . He repaired my 8 track housing and his work is excellent. He also makes specialized gauge surrounds that look eerily like the 8 track ones.

Lessee if I can help you a bit more. Clik on this link if you want to take a stab at cutting it yourself. It's a picture of the template.
