Looking for a 67 400 engine
Hello, new menber, first post.
figured I'd start off by reaching for the stars.
Last fall I acquired a 67 442. The original E code 400 engine got vented 45 years ago.
On the faint hope clause I'm looking for a correct engine.
I'm not stuck, I have a fresh 455 that would work.
any leads would be greatly appreciated.

The motor ,"E" block, except for cylinder head castings and carburetor is basically the same for years 1966 and 1967. The "C" cylinder head castings were used from 1967 thru 1969 and are still pretty plentiful. The carburetor has the number 7027156 unless it is a California smog motor which would be 7027157. Intake manifold for years 1966 and 1967 is casting number 390390 but 1968 and 1969 intakes would also work for you, they just would not have the correct casting number. Good luck!

“got vented”
Ive never heard it put that way, but i like it!
are you on FB? there’s a lot of groups that are very specific to any year you’d like. They get a lot of traffic and asking on there could be helpful as well.

And I appreciate the suggestion.
But I don't do Facebook. Never have, never will.
I would consider all.
My first choice would be a running engine with compression and leakdown test. And oil pressure. (If I could afford it)
A rebuildable core would be ok. Disassembled preferred to check it out.
A bare block would be fine.
but in reality I thonk I need to be flexible. I doubt I will be flooded with a bunch of options.

Looking for a 67 400 engine
Since it obviously won't be numbers matching, have you considered a 425 engine? Looks the same; uses all the same accessories, including the flywheel/flexplate and balancer; has more power. Just a thought. I have several 425s in various states of disassembly, from bare blocks to complete engines. If interested and for pics, email me direct: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.

I'll shoot you a email
my car is Supreme 442 4 speed convert.
I realize it's never going to be a numbers car, but I'd like to make it as close to original as I can.. if my search for the elusive E block don't bear fruit I will have to consider other options
