I need Couple little parts for my 1968 Cutlass
I need Couple little parts for my 1968 Cutlass.
I have the ceramic tube that the battery cable routes through but i am missing the little bracket that it bolts to that in turn bolts to the back of the block on the drivers side. Anyone have one of these brackets they would like to sell?
I also need a speedometer indicator and the little spring that goes on it to put tension on the indicator. The back piece broke off which I can fix if I have to but I still need the spring...anyone? Thanks Todd

That's kind of what I thought too. On the inside of the frame just by the firewall... right by the distribution block/ proportioning valve?

I just took off my bracket on my 1968 Olds Cutlass S. It is the one that bolts to the block on the drivers side. Attached are photos. It has been media blasted, cleaned, and lightly sprayed with a matte clear. Let me know if this is the one you are looking for.

So, your car is not an auto trans, right? Seems pretty unlikely that the factory would use an MT bracket on an AT car.
Either one will work OK, if need be, but the MT bracket is more rare, NEEDED for factory correct MT cars, and therefore harder to find and more spendy.
Typically, using the correct factory parts makes things go more smoothly.

Auto trans cars had the + batt starter cable routed over the fenderwell then down under the steering column across to the starter so the tube is horizontal and bolted to the frame.
Manual trans cars had the starter cable routed up over the intake mainifold next to the driver side valve cover and down the back to the starter so the tube is vertical & bolted to the block.
I have a tube and bracket from a '68 350 auto car. Let me know if you still need it and I'll dig it out & post pics...

Then, your *bakelite* tube's bracket should be bolted to the frame, with the wire routed as set forth previously. So sayeth the assembly manual, and my considerable experience in working on such cars. The only place I have seen this bracket bolted to the engine, outside of MT A-bodies, is some 68-70 era B & C bodies. A good source for the longer tube per MT use, by the way.

you will want to procure that bracket from one of the many visitors who do NOT live in the Rust Belt:
