Electric trunk lock solenoid - 70-72 Cutlass
Try power trunk release or trunk release. They usually go 4 between 50 and 100 dollars. The 1970 version has a chrome with black button that goes in the glove box, the 71-72 is a black with black button. You will need a 3 quarter inch drill bit to make a hole in the glovebox. The button has 4 little plastic ears that are often broken when removing it so make sure the ears are good on any one you're looking at.
Thanks Scott, i'll try that out. Have you had any of these recently in the cutlass depot?
I dont necessarily need the button, i have a nice electronics store near my house so i'm sure i could find a nice one that would fit. Perhaps even the same size with the ears. I'll have to check this evening.
Oh and by the way, got the clips, they look great, wire brushed them and painted them. I'll post pictures later today.
Cheers
Tony
I have this option on my car. In addition to what's already been posted, there's also either one or two black metal clips that fasten the wiring/cable to the left side of the right hood hinge arm (?) (not sure of its proper name) right before the cable makes its entry into an already existing hole in the trunk lid. I'm not near the car at the moment so unfortunately i'm going by memory.
Sorry bud, don't let my comment stop you
Tony, that's a decent latch/solenoid - just needs the glove box button. 50 is a decent price too. You have options. As others have said, these come up on ebay all the time. I did a quick search just a minute ago and came up with a Buy It Now for 70. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/70-81-FIREBIR...item1c215bb3ce
You do need the release button to send the current to the solenoid. The wiring is really simple. If you want, I even have a 'how to' word .doc that explains what to do. PM me your home email and I'll send it to you.

The NOS solenoid I have does not look like the ones in this photo

It has different attaching tabs and looks like this:

This is the kit I bought on ebay. It was actually Aug 08 when I got it. I found a website that shows how to mount it on the original trunk release so I think I'll be ok. Note: it also came with the jumper wire for the glove box light.

Can you share the web site you found that shows how the lock solenoid connects to the trunk lock mechanism? Very curious...
Thanks!
