D heads wanted

I need a set of D heads for my '68 H/O. Prefer heads that haven't been hammered to hell, milled, salvaged from a swamp, etc... Don't need valves, springs or hardware. Prefer a casting date before June. Let me know what you have. Shop doing the work is in Chicago area if that matters...

Thanks!

I'm sure you are aware of the rarity of the "D" heads, and huge price tag that goes along with them. Is everything else in your build original to the car? I have a couple ideas for you- first you might want to just throw a big valve set of "C" castings on your engine so you can enjoy it. That way you can take your time to find a set of D's for a fair price. The other option might be to purchase a pair of fake D's from our very own Octania-

He's not trying to fool the experts, just a few guys that really think the "D" heads are a must have at the car shows. I don't believe he changes the casting numbers. If you are planning to resell as a numbers matching car, these heads are not for you.

Wink D heads

Hello,
I currently have a spare set and have sent you a PM.
68 H/O is one of my favorites and I would be honored to be of assistance with helping complete one. Plus, the chances of me finding one for sale, needing heads will increase substantially.

Thanks for the info and advice. I certainly considered the C's and also "faking" it. The challenge is that building a motor with C heads, then adding D heads later boosts the compression significantly due to them having smaller combustion chambers. It would be a lot cheaper to do it that way, but I'd like this one to be "right" for now, as it has pretty much all the correct H/O stuff except for the numbers matching block.

I can change the 6-digit or not, as you wish, but have never changed the underside last-3 ID. It'd be a lot less work and so about half the money to just put a "D" on a pair of heads. Hey how about a "W" instead? Keep 'em guessing.

Your heads can be shaved to get the D type compression.

Found a really nice set, got them from 64Rocket. Thanks to Gene for a great transaction, thanks to everyone who offered up a set and helped during the search.

Still publically telling people you fabricate fake H/O and W-30 parts huh?
