I'm curious about "M-22 with 442 on Hurst linkage - rebuildable O.K."
M22 is a rock crusher 4-speed Muncie transmission correct only for a '71 442. Are you after a transmission complete with a Hurst shifter? For a '65 4-spd, a Hurst shifter is not correct, but certainly more desirable!
Also, I believe the molding around the side rear windows is the same on the Cutlass Sports Coupe.

I was under the impression that the M-22 was in the '65 as I personally rebuilt one from a friends '64 442, which WAS a M-22!
That trans ended up in my '56 210 sedan behind a 'hard-way' 301 w/3x2's!
Young and stupid, never missed a shift @ 8000 either! [a scatter what??]
This '65 442 had the 442 embossed on the handle, but it was stolen, along with the trans!

You're probably thinking of the M-21. The M-20 was the wide ratio 4-spd, the M-21 was the close ratio 4-spd, and the M-22 was the close ratio "rock crusher" trans. The M-22 came out is '67, but not in an Olds! Only available in an Olds in '71.
So if there was one in a '64 or '65 Olds, it wasn't there originally.
All 3-spd and 4-spd Hurst shifters from '65-'69 in 442s had "442" on the handles. There was not a 4-spd Hurst shifter in '65, it was a Muncie shifter, but still had "442" on the handle.

You could be right about the shifter, if it was flat - [not square, but rectangular] 442 up and down. Hurst style.
I know this trans was a M-22 as I had to order parts for it, and saw the almost straight gears! And the lovely 'whine' it had! Looking on some of the build sheets, I don't see it as being an option though. Being everything else was H.D. maybe it was installed by accident??
He did buy it used, and I think it was around 40k when he bought it in '66.
