This one was on craigslist a few months ago. I think the price for both was 2500 at the time. No way they were worth that, so no one bought them. I called a few times in between and asked about them, offered 1000 and got nowhere. Got a call today from the owner, said he needs to get rid of them and wants a grand. Drove up, offered 700, he countered 9, I offered 8 and got em both. Already sold the vert. So I got the coupe for 500. Go pick them up next Saturday.

The coupe is a basketcase. Only body options are the 4 speed and 442 package. No radio either, fender hole for antenna is punched out. Has backup lights, no power steering and no power brakes.


Its one of 736 ever made.

Post car is absolute junk. Quarters are gone, trunk floor is gone, wheel houses are gone. Doors arent usable. Its a total basketcase. But how could I pass up a car thats one of 700 ever made?

This 442 is based on the F85 non-Deluxe package. Kind of a bare bones price leader. It was originally equipped with rubber floor coverings, a plain steering wheel and no under hood insulation blanket.

That rear trim is only on the base F85 cars, two and 4 door. The hood chrome is also different, its short and doesnt go all the way down the center of the hood. The hood on the car isnt the correct one. This is the correct hood. So when ordering the 442 package on the F85 Club Coupe, you got that cars trim level. Other differences were a plastic dash pad instead of a vinyl one, a mandatory bench seat and a wider rear seat. There were no arm rests in the rear so the seat goes all the way across the rear.

 

Nothing beats a post car!

Okay, I see one you missed?: backup lights! Personally, I dump them and put in the block-off plates.

I knew Id eventually have one of these cars so Ive been collecting parts. Got an extra F85 hood and F85 hood chrome, back up deletes, radio delete cover, and I bought a set of F85 rear trim last week before I bought the car.

It may have some other options. Ill go over it thoroughly when I get it home.

Ive been looking over the available options for this car. The padded dash and deluxe wheel were options. So these cars dont have to have the plastic dash and cheap steering wheel. Carpet was an option too.

 

Seller emailed me that he doesnt want to sell anymore, thinks it worth more than 800 bucks. Guess I am going to court because we shook on it, I gave him a deposit and he wrote a receipt, and said Id be back this Saturday to get it.

He is not backing out of this.

Well even a verbal contract is considered a contract but harder to prove. Here you should have email communications?that may help you plus the receipt he wrote out and the fact you made a deposit on it. Too late for him to back out now I would think.

 

Only proof I have is that receipt and the email saying he doesnt want to sell and is refunding my money. I messed up and forgot to take the receipt with me, they kept it. But I think the email is proof enough that we had a deal and he has my money.

But you may just want to take your money back and move on. Just because you're right doesn't mean that it's worth pursuing. To actually force him to sell you the car will certainly require your suing him. Then, if you win that fight, which you probably would (although not keeping the receipt was not a good idea and perhaps another reason to just take your money back and move on--after all, without a receipt, he could argue that you never paid him, and then what would you do to prove you had?), you may still have to involve the law to allow you to get onto his property unmolested and remove the car. In the meantime, he could do all kinds of nasty things to it just to get back at you.

In short, he could make it very difficult and unpleasant for you to actually try to get the car no matter how much the law is on your side. You have to decide whether it's a battle worth fighting. I'm not sure it is.

 

it may not hurt to ask him how much more he wants for said vehicles.. then maybe Meet in the middle if it is a number you are comfortable with.. I know it is not the original deal. but it gets you the rare car.

 

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say you guys don't know TK......

 

He wanted a grand the last time I was there, I offered 700. He came back at 900, I came back at 800 and he took it.

He is the one that called me and asked if I still wanted them. So I did, I bought them, and I am going to get them. Ive already called my lawyer.

I imagine your lawyer will write a sternly worded letter, on his professional stationery, to the seller with all sorts of bad-sounding legal words in it, and that may very well be enough to scare the guy into to going through with the deal.

But it might not be, and then what will you do? The dollar amounts involved here are tiny, relatively speaking. Your lawyer will charge you something for his services. If the scare letter doesn't work, which he might charge you, what, $50 to write, you'll have to have him do more things, which will cost you more money. Do you want to spend $200, $300, $400 just so you can complete the purchase on an $800 car? You'd come out ahead by just offering him $1,000 and skip the lawyer altogether.

Another consideration is that many states require disputes involving dollar amounts less than $1,000 to be handled in small claims courts. No lawyers are allowed. You might try that route before you start running up attorney fees.

But then again, it might all be for naught. You could go to court, with or without your lawyer, and win a judgment against this guy. In fact, it's entirely possible the other guy won't even show up, and you'll get a summary judgment in your favor. Fine. Either way, you won, at least in principle. Now try to get the car. Just because the judge says it's yours doesn't mean the seller will quietly and willingly hand it over. It might be a smoldering wreck when you show up with a couple of sheriff's cars to escort you onto the property.

You might be pissed as hell right now, and no one can blame you. But you shouldn't make decisions like this in that kind of emotional state. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if your lawyer's advice was to avoid the fight altogether, take the deposit back, and look for another car. Again, the dollar amount is just too small to make it worth it for any lawyer to get too seriously involved.

 

This isnt going to cost me a dime.

 

The first round won't, and I think you'll win in the first round. Once the guy gets your lawyer's letter, assuming that's what your lawyer does, the seller will capitulate, and you'll get the car for the $800. Does your lawyer work for free?

The only problem with this approach, though, is if the seller doesn't capitulate. Then you have to be prepared to go through with whatever you threatened him with in the letter. That's when you may have to start spending some dimes. Of course, you might try to recover any legal costs from the seller in court. But I bet it doesn't get that far.

i bet some1 found out how little you paid and called him and offered more!! it happend 2 me when i was 17, i found a 68 cougar GT in my neighbor hood and was making payments i only owed 200 more on a 1200 car i sold my 67 cougar for 800 just 2 get some money, i told every1 in my neighbor hood what a great deal i got and my friends dad went over there and steped on my toes, he told them the car was worth more and offered 1700 they sold it 2 them and gave me back my money! i was mad but it worked out i got my money back and some1 vandelized the car VERY BAD when his son had a party, they jumped on the hood, roof, trunk, kicked in the quarters, they covered the interior with mustard, ketchup, and mayo and from what his son said poured BB's in the carb!! that car sat for 10 years untill they sold it for $325, CARMA IS GREAT!!!! they burnt me and got burnt!!!

Years ago my brother in law bought a very nice 67 GTX for $5300. He gave him $300 cash and said we'd be back the next day. My brother had the cash at home and I told him to get the money and get the car right now. He had other things to do so we waited til the next day. The guy walked out of the house with $300 cash and said the car was sold to someone else. My B-I-L was very PO'ed persued it with his lawyer but it wasn't worth the trouble.... Lesson learned. When you buy a car, get the deal done ASAP. Weird things can happen.

i didnt do it!!! and i didnt tell any1 to do it!! i was on the east coast visiting family, its just carma!! they burnt me for the car and got burnt!! thats what happens! my friend had a party with a bunch of wild kids HIS BAD, i laughed every time i drove by the car, i laughed every time we sat outside by the car, its funny now!! hahahahahhaha!!! carma carma carma!! b4 his dad steped on my toes he asked me a bunch of questions about the car, where it was at, if it was a really a big block, hows the interior and body, he acted happy 4 me and went and offered more 2 days later, HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVED!!!

 

Yeah I think I learned to never share the great deals I got before they were completed. Similar things happen to everybody. People can be jerks.
