Two weeks ago I thought I bought a 65 442 Club Coupe. Went to get it 5 days later and the seller backed out. I was mad for a couple days but came to my senses and let the deal go. Two days later my friend sends me an email telling me he found another one. What are the odds?

This car is one of 736 with a 4 speed, white with red vinyl guts. Options are 442 package, 2 speed wipers, back-up lights, deluxe steering wheel and 4 speed trans. One options it has thats kinda weird is the "H" chrome, upper fender and body moldings.

The runs unlike the other one I missed out on. The rear is a 4.88 Chevy 12 bolt out of a Camaro. The rear has no spring perches, must have been out of a leaf spring Nova or Camaro. Trans is a M22, I think, 4 speed. Havent checked the numbers so thats probably not true. It does have two drain plugs and the big yoke though. Engine is original. Got it home and checked the glove box to find the Protecto-Plate. Head number in the book matches the head. Couldnt believe the POP was there since the car is such a wreck.

Sold new to LW Serafy, Wellsville OH, on January 8 1965. Dealer code is 8-510. Any help on that code would be awesome.

Congrats. Things do work out most of the time. Love those post cars. You have a lot of work to do but you also have a lot to start with. Keep up updated.

What a great find. Looks to be in good shape. Is there much rust?
Also looks like seats are from a different car, from the color and the power seat switch. Sell the 12 bolt for some money and get the correct rear. From what I see, it is a Red with Red on red.

Yes, mucho rust. The midwest isnt kind to old cars. I am surprised this one is still around. Seats are from a big car, same size as an A body but they have the wrap over the top chrome trim. I think they are 64 Impala seats. Yes the driver side is power, both seats are coming out today and going on ebay. Ive got the correct bench seat for it, red to boot.

Car was originally Provincial White with Red Vinyl interior. Dont know if it was a rubber floor car. Since no one makes that Ill put carpet in it. It was an option.

 

As Jason knows, I saw the car at the Alliance meet yesterday. A way cool car. About as basic (and light!) as a '65 442 could possibly be!
Sure, ideally it would be in better condition, but it is not a basket case by any means. And it has solid documentation to boot. Great find!
(Makes that other one fade from memory pretty fast!)

 

The seats are from a full size Pontiac. 65 or older.

Good deal, but it's unlikely the rear end came out of a leaf spring Camaro/Nova. Those axles would not have had the cast-in lugs for the upper control arms.

 

That's proof that sometimes things happen for a reason. Looks like a much better deal then the other one. Can't wait to see the progress pictures on the build

My wife was pregnant with our first son when I bought my first 442. Our second boy is due in December. So what did I find? Another 65 442. When the the owners backed out on the deal I thought my tradition of 442s and sons was over. Tell me finding this one two days later wasnt divine intervention. So yes it happened for a reason.

 

Congrats! Looks like there is a whole lot more car there than the other one. That other one was going to be flat scary after its stripped.

Those will look very nice together especially if you paint the newly acquired one red to match.

 

Back when it still existed, a quick letter to the Olds History Center in Lansing would have gotten you a quick answer, and it wouldn't cost you anything. They were able to help me back in the mid-90s when I found the build sheet for my '75 Delta 88 and it had a dealer code on it. The OHC was absorbed into the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights (Detroit), so maybe they can help you now.

It looks, though, like they might charge you for the info. But it wouldn't hurt to email them and ask.

 

Talked to the original owner today, a very old dude from the same town on the POP. Bought the car new from the showroom of Litton Motors INC, East Liverpool OH.

Salesman told him it was set up for drag racing, he liked the 4 speed so he bought it. Went to get it the next day and 10 guys had tried to buy it. Told me it would do 118 miles per hour, not on strip but back roads around his house. Also said it had redlines when new. Only had it for a year then bought a new one.

 

Yes another post car find. My 64 F-85 Granny car may not be a very collectable item, but it's the love....Olds.....I have several updates posted in the major projects section, moving along...

Actually he needs a Convertible *and* a Sports Coupe.........
'66 is the toughest year; you'd need 5 models! (I actually considered doing '66s like that when I had 2 of the harder ones to get!)

 

Here is three out of four, and the owner of the Sports Coupe has a convertible at home. So we have all four covered.

TK, after seeing the pics of your red car, curiosity has bitten me. Do you have a link, or more info on it. I used to have a red w/black int,white headliner 65. Wondering if it could be my old car. Funny also, at 1 point, my 65 had those same cragar sst's, that your new car has.

 

I've never seen one of those. What does one look like?

I remember "test driving" a used red 1965 442 at a lot in Bellaire, OH about 1970. Cheapest model 2 door sedan, loud, tinny, fast. The ideal Oldsmobile

Some new pics. Added an old air cleaner I had laying around and drove it to a local charity car show last week. Thing runs great. I flushed the cooling system out and put in a new T stat, runs 170 now. Brakes suck, locked up the left rear during a simple stop. People were all over it though. Even a buddy that knows Oldsmobiles never knew these Club Coupes were made.

The theme of this car is parts finding me, like the car did. On the way back with it I said Ill never find a bench seat shifter for it, 5 days later one shows up on eBay.

My dad recently retired, to stay active he wakes up every morning and hits the diner with some other retired hot rodders. He told one of the guys about the car, guy says he knows a guy with the rubber floor that went in it. I figured this guy had no clue what he was talking about. Who knows what the mats look like and who remembers seeing one. Got this from him today. This thing is like brand new, and its red!! More parts finding me.

Its an F85, so it only has two chrome bars in the middle. No chrome panel.
