It wasnt cheap but where would I ever find something like it again. If not for the rust stains on the padding one would think it was NOS. Its a shame Ill have to cut a hole in it for the 4 speed shifter.

 

Just out of curiousity, what did you have to pay for the club coupe? If you don't want to answer that's cool, I understand. Just trying to get a feel for what they go for unfinished.

 

That is sweet that you found and spoke to the original owner. I have the PoP for my '66 post, and must have made 20 phone calls trying to locate the buyer, and came up empty.

Did you ask the original owner about photos or documentation? Maybe a window sticker tucked away in a bible?

 

He didnt have anything. Only owned it a year. Id like to find the second owner of it, may find some pics there. No idea who that may be though.

U gettin jacked up for the project helps keep me focued on the 64, Thanks. I keep telling myself I'm way over head in terms of experience, SPACE (homeowners assoc. issues) and the $$$$ it will take, but again I am committed to build this sweet " granny post" back but with alot more power , safety features, suspension upgrades, Vintage A/C, retaining the 64 post stealth look, etc. There are not to many of these 64-65 post cars left, although they are not worth much $$$$ in terms on return on investment, but hey if you have not figured out by now this is an expensive hobby, you need to go figure. My project 64 in under major projects fourm-64 post update progress if you would like to check it out!!

 

Latest update. Took off the radials and put some cheater slicks on the back and the stock redline tires on the front. Car is done, until it gets blown apart for a body off resto.

You scored on that red rubber floor mat, you know that right lol. Mine has new green carpet because the original rubber mat was trashed and we could not find another rubber one to replace it.

 

I finally talked to the guy that found the mat for me. Story is the mat owners mom bought a new F85 in 65, and it had the rubber floor in it. She didnt like it and had the dealer put carpet in for her. Strange thing is she kept the mat.

 

Been a while since I updated this thread. As of yesterday I have everything either bought or restored that goes inside the car SMS supplied the interior material. Not covers, but the material to make the covers. Also made the door panels for the club coupe.

Original F85 seat belts, SEM paint on the buckles and new Fisher tags. F85 belts have plastic collars on the ends for some reason.

Car was built with the optional Deluxe steering wheel, but being an F85 I think it deserved the base model wheel which it would have came with standard. Wheel had two stress cracks at the hub, after much cutting, filing, filling, and sanding it came out pretty decent.

Fixing the dash was a long ordeal. Had a few cracks in the corners and the standard break above the steering column tube. I used Plastex to fix all the cracks and weld the bottom piece back together. I added some fiberglass to reinforce it. Top of the dash where it meets the windshield was warped from the suns heat I used a heat gun along with two pieces of metal I removed from two junk padded dashes to reform the plastic. After it was repaired I used SEM texture paint to reapply the grain to the sanded areas.

The dash in the car was in great shape, alot of these dashes have extra holes or aftermarket radios jammed into them, or cracks. I got lucky as all I had to do was strip it and repaint it.

I had the speaker grill rechromed.

Pedal assembly. I blasted everything and painted the pedals with Eastwood Underhood black. I left the brace in bare metal and treated it with Gibbs Brand penetrant. Should stay nice for a long time.

Next up was the steering column. Judging from the paint pattern these were painted black and when they were assigned to a car there were sprayed the color of the interior. Notice its only sprayed in the area that you will see above the dash.

These two stickers were on the columns I have. Red is from the coupe, blue is from a parts column. Think about what that line means...

After stripping, filling, sanding and painting (a few times) this is the end result.

I sanded the inner shaft to a shine then treated with Gibbs Brand. Originally they were not painted and I like the look of bare metal over spray paint metal. Cant duplicate this with paint.

Remember that line? Its to let the worker know where to stop applying the interior color.

Manual trans firewall plate with the hole for the clutch rod. Decal shows part number for the column assembly.

Last thing to finish for the interior was the heater box. I blasted it, primed and painted it with Rustoleum Hammered brand paint. Gives it a mottled look and the color is close to what it was. The inspection sticker is original, peeled it off and reapplied it using 3M spray adhesive.

Hey Jasen, That Club Coupe is REALLY coming along!!! That would be awesome painted red w/ white painted roof and "Anderson Olds" lettering!!! Are you planning any "RESTO-DRAG"--Junior Stock ideas? Did that Linton Motors ever field a car?
I had toyed with the idea of buying that "Wil Fischer" car and doing an "Anderson" '65 to be a companion with my '69. Do you know if that car sold on eBay? It looked like a whole lot of the grunt work was finished and was on the way to being a great car.

I dont know if Litten was sent a drag car, if they were my car was it. It was built in mid December and sold first week of January. White car, easy to letter up, club coupe, what all the dealers were racing, 4 speed, goes without saying...

Maybe they didnt want it. Maybe because it was the middle of winter in Ohio. But it wasnt raced by Litten, as far as I know. Original owner told me it was in the showroom when he saw it and bought it.

The ebay car is from Ohio too, another white/red Ohio car. A lot of the clubs went to Ohio for some reason. Its not the Wil Fischer car however. A guy on the 65 board bought it.

 

Thanks for the info. Are his plans to resto-race do you know? And it is for sure NOT the Wil Fischer car? In the description on eBay, a picture of that Wil Fischer was shown with the partial restoration---never knew it WASN'T that car. Kinda misleading if you ask me. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't get it now if you say it wasn't. Keep up the awesome resto. on the CC.

 

Positive its not the Fischer car. The auction car is from Ohio, Wil Fischer was in Missouri.

 

Epoxy primed the frame today, came out okay. Have to flip it over to do the bottom side later or tomorrow. Going to use Eastwoods Extreme Chassis black as a top coat.
