1973 Toronado Restoration - Brasov,Romania

Hello to you all,

We are very happy to find such an enthusiastic Oldsmobile community !
We started a few days ago one of our most ambitious projects yet : to fully restore a great Toro !
As you can see from the pictures attached we really need some exterior body parts. Can you help us finding these parts, eventually part numbers (until the catalogues we have ordered will arive) ?
We will try to update this thread on a regular basis with pictures and news regarding this great challenge.
Feel free to contact me for any matter regarding this project.

Many thanks,

Bogdan Cristea

Welcome to the site! I think you'll get better coverage with this post under the parts wanted section. I'll move it there for you. Then if you would create another post in the newbie section to introduce yourself and tell us more about your car that would be appreciated! John

Body and trim parts for the full-size Oldsmobiles are in general not reproduced, although places like Fusick do have some things, such as rearview mirrors. However, they don't list a mirror for a '73 Toronado.

You will have to find good used pieces or the occasional "new old stock" (NOS) piece on ebay. This means that there is no central, one-stop-shopping location to find these parts. You should post in the Parts Wanted section here and on other Olds websites, and you might want to join the Oldsmobile Club of American and then their Toronado/Aurora Chapter. I'm guessing that if anyone would know where to get the parts you're looking for, it would be members of that chapter.

You might also check the Toronado Owners Association. It's not affiliated with the OCA.

Now for the real interesting question. How did a '73 Oldsmobile Toronado come to be in Romania? From what I understand, Romania was a very isolated country under Ceausescu for many years, certainly during the years when this car was new. It's only recently (last 10 or 15 years?) that it opened up more to the West. I could be wrong on my dates.

Can you send me some pictures with them? If you have the rear with rubber strips it's even better. I am also looking for the trim pieces between the front fenders and bumbers and between the rear bumber and trunk (the ones that are painted in the body color). Many many thanks for your reply, I am looking forward to seeing what you have
