1968 Convertible Boot Attachment Clips

I need a few of these. I'll purchase an entire junk boot if need be. If anyone had a source for these clips I'd do that too

Thanks,

Check Original Parts Group Inc., part number CL52011 (page 115 of their 2017 catalog). They say it's for the 66-67 model year but they appear to be the same as on my 68 4-4-2 convertible.

Thank Randy,

Those look like the right ones. I think the change to the plastic piece that slid under the trim didn't happen until 69. I 've managed to keep this top boot workable. It was originally white and I painted it black with SEM 7 or 8 years ago. It's held up well except for the clips and the foam. I'm going to fix it this winter

I believe you are right on that. My original '68 boot has the clips, whereas my original '69 boot has the plastic strips. I've heard that late production '68 convertibles also had the plastic strips but don't have anything to confirm it!

Just to follow up on this....

I installed the 66-67 clips and they are similar but definitely not the same. They fit VERY tightly. You need to place something non-marking under the trim to keep it raised up while you push the clip down from the top. It's much easier when the boot is out in the sunlight and everything is heated up.

I had an April or May '68 W-30 convertible that had the plastic strip - when the boot was replaced, we tried to reuse the strip but it was too old and damaged. I've never seen these clips! I'll pass this on to the current owner of the car and maybe he can get the boot to stay down without curling up at the corners...! Great info

If you are really desperate to have those clips, I think I might have a few lying around in a secret hiding place! Do you need the metal retainers also?

Thanks for the offer. The ones I bought work. I expect that they will be a little easier to install as they get worn out a bit. I don’t put the top up much so once they are on I’m good.

After a summer with the 67 clips I've come to the realization that they just suck. They will clip on a hot day but under 75 degrees they are pretty much impossible to get on. Worse, when they break (and most have), the little metal insert scratches the crap out of the trim.

So if anyone has the 68's, I'm buying. Shipping to 13148 please

Will a 69-72 boot work?

Absolutely...It will look a lot better than the boot with clips. Sits lower and flatter. The one problem could be the space between the trim and the paint to slide the plastic tabs in.
