1940 Model 70 gas tank

The tank in my 1940 Model 70 is more of a sieve than a tank, so I am on the hunt for a replacement. I prefer an original style metal tank, but am having great difficulty finding one, so would be interested in a fiberglass replica. As long as it fits! I'll also need the sending unit, but the existing straps are in fine shape.

Thanks, FStanley. I don't think my tank is a good candidate for repair, as it had extensive repair in the past with a type of fiberglass compound, and the interior appears to be rusted to the point of no metal left. But thanks for the tip

According to the 1941 Oldsmobile Master Parts list.
That gas tank only fits 1940 model 70 Oldsmobiles. (G-40)
Part number was 413353.
Good luck!

If you think your tank is so far gone that it's not a good candidate for restoration, at least contact a professional shop that specializes in fuel tank and radiator restoration. They can tell you if it's worth saving.

These tanks are generally known to be either completely destroyed (rot), or fully preserved. There doesn’t seem to be much of a variation. My 90 series Coupe tank was banged up and leaking upon arrival. I was forced to use the Tank Renu process to make it functional and safe again. (It’s been ten plus years with no issues). If the outside of your tank is still intact, I might suggest having tank Renu, only on the inside to retain the factory appearance. Congratulations on your acquisition, I believe that these cars are an excellent representation of the brand.. PM me if you’re looking for parts/resources.😀
