I hope I am correct that this is a 70 style wheel, This is NOT my part but I saw the ad and thought someone here might be interested.

Run it thru a dish water no soap and they come out great.

are you saying run the steering wheel thru the dish washer? If so is that to get rid of the goo feel? Also some dishwashers automatically add rinse aid, when you did it was rinse aid involved?

The fastest way to clean the goo off of these wheels is to use a paint pre-cleaner like Pre-Sol. Goo Gone is the same thing in a smaller, consumer size package. Simply wipe it over the wheel. Repeat whenever it starts to get sticky again. I've been doing it this way since the 1970s.

Sounds more controllable than the dishwasher which may work just fine. Options that may just save the day are priceless. Info like this is why the people on this site are so invaluable.
