I think they are 28 spline, not sure or exact year, 68-72.

The O-Type was made from 1967-1970 and is a direct fit for A body cars from 68-72.
The early (67-69) O-Type have sealed bearings with the oil seal inboard of the bearing, pressed into the end of the tube.
The 1970 version uses an open bearing with the oil seal outboard of the bearing, pressed onto the axle shaft between the bearing and the axle retainer flange (same as the 71-up corporate 8.5" 10 bolt rears).

I can't tell from the pictures which version this one is. Perhaps post a pic of the casting number on the snout to ID the year.

31 spline axle shafts were used on the HD rears in 67-68; the later years used 28 spline shafts.

That housing was last used in 1970. The outer bearings were changed for the 70 model year and that makes them unique.

It is 28 Spline, I found the book I documented when I purchased the rear and all bearing and seal #'s used when rebuilt. I hope these #'s help. Thank you for all the info provided.

For anyone reading this, the 402227 casting was for the 1970 model year, and there were no HD 31 spline shaft versions available for that year - all were 28 spline shafts.
