Ron, so sorry your throwing in the towel. I know that your work and you are beyond reproach. Maybe you need a break is in order. Don't make a rash decision on one transaction that went south.

I would echo OldCutlass's sentiments.

Sounds like time for a break.

No need to sell the store to take a break - just slow it down, get back to your car, and put all that other stuff on a back burner - or in a back closet.

You can decide what to sell in six months or a year.

Ron, you need a break. Don't make a decision that you may regret in 6 months. Your inventory and equipment won't be worth any less then. You just need to educate your customers a bit. No cash -no dash. Don't let unprincipled people drive you away from something you enjoy. The hobby needs folks like you.

I also agree - time to take a break from it all and reevaluate the situation later.
I do not know what caused this to be the time. IF one particular bad incident caused it, then that is the last reason to give it all up. Instead change business practice to help things like that from happening again. Don't let them feel they won - you win by improving things as needed to protect yourself.
While I have not used your services, many here have and many need your kind of work that no one else does. Others can do similar work but do they know Olds and all the details? I am realizing the need for special services like these more and more by repairing switches and other "unserviceable" electrical parts for members here.
So take a break and decide a little later. Hope it all works in your favor, whatever you decide.

i have my own way of putting that...

don't let 1 @$$hole "screw" up the rest of your life.

and, as others have stated above, this hobby needs folks like you. take a break, and let a calmer head prevail.

Hey, Ron,

Like all the others said, don't let one bad apple spoil the lot. I had a hunch by our phone conversations you were getting a little worn and frustrated. Take a breath and a couple of weeks off and catch up with your own car a little. Maybe spend some time getting settled in the house too. You'll feel better and maybe have a better outlook for the future. You still have two of my dashes since February, but no worries, when they're done, they're done. Take time and make peace with yourself. We need you.

Just saw this post. Ron, unfortunately its like that in the non hobby world too. I've had what I consider good patients that needed and requested major dental work. Did the work with the patient knowing the cost, and afterward had sprung on me their "payment plan" was going to be $100 a month for 3 years. Hell, you cant keep the doors open with that business model. Frankly, I would only take the word of a family member, and even thats suspect with some of MY family. Unwind, dabble a little with it, and if you really enjoy what you do, do not accept any work without a fair deposit and no delivery without full payment. That will honk off some, but good work is not cheap and if they dont want to play by your rules, oh well. Believe me, its a little hard to make this a policy when you have trusted guys before but it will take that burden off your shoulders and work better in the long run. As Pesci said " they will f*^k you in the drivethru" Good luck Pat
