COMPLETE 455 with Edelbrock heads, for sale

TRANNY, ADAPTERS, and Converter still available.

Complete Motor is SOLD! Thanks Greg, have a safe drive back to Kansas.

MOTOR SOLD

Transmission and converter still available as of 12-13-12

Also, I have the 700R4 transmission for sale. The trans got "sick" recently, and would not go into 3rd. The converter is a 2800 stall, lock-up, recently serviced by Circle-D. I will include the tranny, the converter, and the BOP-to-chevy adapter kit - all for $500. The converter alone would cost more than that.

e-mail me at vcxzrewq AT yahoo.com

Thanks,
Lee Atkinson

Your build is almost identicle to mine. I cruise with it all the time. No need for a roll cage, it won't go low enough. Keep your foot out of the secondaries and it's not much worse than a 350. That's why I run a custom built quadrajet. ( Been there with the Holley's, Edelbrock, etc.) However, I like to hammer it once in awile. Just love the torque when wanted.
Good luck on your sale though. The heads alone are almost 1/2 your price!

Different rules for convertibles, have to have a rollbar for faster than 13.50. With the old iron heads, stock exhaust manifolds, crappy Badger pistons, and an old CompCam 270 the car ran 13.4's! That was when I FIRST found out about the different rules for convertibles....

Thanks for the bump, hopefully I can find the motor a good home!

Those are different rules. You can go faster than that in a convertible without getting a cage,at least up here. That's a nice cruiser/street engine there.I've done a few like that.Should go low-12's,but it should get decent gas mileage too.

From the website of my local track, regarding rollbar requirements:
"A roll bar is required on all cars running 11.00 (7.00) to 11.49 (7.35) and in convertibles running 11.00 to 13.49 and in all dune buggy type vehicles running 12.00 and slower. See the NHRA Rule Book for more detailed information." I've been "warned" enough times that I just quit trying to sneak it out there - I've got other cars to race, so no biggie.

"Decent gas mileage" is a subjective term. I've owned this car since '82, when it had a stock 180hp 350 and 2.73 gears. I slowly added an electronic ignition, headers, better exhaust.... the best mpg's it EVER got (mostly highway) was about 15.5. Convertible aerodynamics just don't help MPG's.

It's a darned nice motor, together long enough to prove it is solid, but low enough miles to have plenty of life left in it. Like 507 alludes to, it is enough to put nearly any car at least into the high-12's. I'd love to find a buyer before I pull it, so that they can see/hear/feel it run. It will be in the car for at least two more weeks, but it will probably be out by the end of next month.

I'll be willing to crate the motor and take it to a local shipping point, if a buyer is willing to arrange & pay for the shipping.

How about $3,750?? Buy the tranny, adapters & converter as well, and I'll make the price even better!

Lee, I would take you up on it but I just finished mine. Going to Faerman / DaVinci for dyno next week. I figure this is good enough for a bump at least

I found it because I was searching for spark plugs that fit the Edelbrock heads...any help? I wanna run NGK but it's so hard to decide which 14mmX3/4 reach race plugs to run...if you've got any advice I'll take it right about now

Edelbrock reccomends Champion RC-9YC to RC-14YC or equivalent. I am now running NGK- BCPR5ES That is equivalent to Champion RC-12YC. However mine is not race. Gap @45. HEI. Runs good.

Still for sale?

Lee. Just wondering if you had sold the motor yet?

At this time, I am considering the motor to be "sold".

The buyer is supposed to be here this coming weekend. If the deals falls through for some reason, I'll bring this thread back up to the top and send you a messege.

Thanks,
Lee

Oh, the tranny, adapters and torque converter ARE still available, if anyone is interested.
