Interesting that it had AZ secondary rods. My data shows AU rods for that application, and the AZ are leaner than the AU.

I'm not certain what the person before me was trying to accomplish with this carburetor; however, when I cracked the 7040256 open I knew it had parts that should not be in there, most notable the power piston and primary rods. We often hear this same story when a 7040256 is opened as some rebuilders and people that tinker don’t realize this carb is unique and does not use parts common with similar applications. That accounts for how sorry the engine ran for sure. I didn't know what else that person tried to monkey with so I bundled everything up, called Cliff Ruggles, and then shipped the carburetor off to him. The good news is that the carburetor had lots of little things wrong with it, but nothing major, for that, I'm grateful as I want everything stock. Ruggles has done a quick turnaround, his price was reasonable, and he is personable and easy to talk with. My encounter with him has been positive. Sometimes one just has to get over the DIY attitude and write the check. And yes, this carb stock uses the AU secondary rods.
