quadrajet 7029250 power piston

So I was having problems with my carburator flooding my engine, so I got a rebuild kit, put it all together, and discovered that one of the primary metering rod is bent. I bent it back, and it seems strong, but i am afraid to try using my carb since the retaining collar on the power piston will not do its job... hold the power piston down enough so the metering rods dont come out of the jets. so I am wondering if I should get a new metering rod, and how I can keep the power piston down enough so the metering rods won't pop out of the jets. do I need a new power piston?

you probably don't need a new power piston. take a small flat-blade screwdriver and a tiny hammer. put the screwdriver on the top edge of the power piston bore and tap a mark into the edge. do this in 3 places until the power piston will stay locked in. it only needs to stay in place until you put the air horn on, after that, the air horn and gasket will hold it in place. are the two little arms unaltered? is the hair spring intact?

is the metering rod straight now? did you just bend the small tip? if it's reasonably straight, you can reuse it.

if you need a new power piston, i have them NOS. i can get the metering rods new too.

Thank you very much. I will try that today, and all the components are still in good condition, as well as the metering rod. It is pretty much straight now.
