Rear Axles

Hi,
I am interested in your axles. Are these from what Olds used to refer to as "O" Type?
Are these the ones with a pressed on wheel bearing and retained by a four hole flabge
and NOT the more common C clip.?

Thanks,
Owen Miller

FYI, these are the early style O-Type axle shafts with sealed bearings and the oil seal pressed into the end of the axle tube. The later O-Type used an open bearing with the oil seal sandwiched between the retainer flange and the bearing.

Thanks for the note Ken, I need to count splines on the side gears. Don't want to
get them here and have them not work. Please don't reserve them for me. THX,
Owen

Unless you know more about this particular pair of axles, a 12-bolt Chevy also has the seal pressed into the axle housing, along with the bearings.

66/67 8.2 B or P axles are the same. 28 spline with the pressed on bearing.

I removed these from OLDS axle The center section casting 402227 It had the 588 casting Oldsmobile anti-spin "posi" unit which is for 28 spline NOT C Clip axle shafts
Bearings are on the axle shafts. The seals are further in the axle tube than the bearings.
NOT Chevrolet style axle

Busy here with snow removal. I can take pictures later.

A 12bolt Chevy axle is retained by a C clip that slips into a side gear . "O" Type axles are retained by a four bolt flange at the bearing end..

are the bearings in good shape? They were common to spend the bearing race on the axle shaft. shaft is trash from there.

I was referencing his original post that they came from a 12-bolt cover rear, not the interchangeability of the axles; that's all.
