68 442 bumper jack, base, and hook
#2
Hi Dave,
What's the date on the jack? There should be a number and a letter on one of the tabs on the slide that moves up and down the jack staff. I've included what it looks like on my '69 jack. Sometimes they will put it on one of the rivet heads in lieu of on the body. The number is the year and the letter is the month within that year the jack was made (for mine 9 = 1969, D = April). With a date that I need, I'm interested!

The hook says 68 F85 and is gray. The jack doesn't have a number like yours and is a tubular post not a T iron shaft like yours. The paint seems to be an identical match to all 3 items. And the paint looks decades old. Please let me know what it is I have.

Hi Dave,
I've attached a couple more pictures of a different style jack that I have. There were 3-4 different styles of jacks for '68, depending upon where the car was assembled. In the attached pictures, you can see where the date code is stamped - on the head of a large rivet - in this case, 8D. I think the style jack pictured below is probably more along the lines of what you have. The picture of the other jack was out of a '69 Fremont car. The pictures below of the jack came out of a '68 Lansing car. Let me know if you see anything on your jack like the pictures below.

The bumper jack that I bought recently for my '68 from Glen (olds68) on this board has the 8D on the large rivet. The hook is grey and has F-85 & U 1968 stamped on it. Glen told me it came out of a '68 Cutlass he had back in 1976.
