Here's a picture of the bumper hook and base from my 70 Cutlass S before I had them powdercoated. Only the hook was gray, the base, mechanism, and wrench were all black.

I have several 70 jacks and bases and they are all grey and none of the bases look like the one Oskar has pics of above. My 55k original mile W-31 had its complete jack assembly and it is all grey including the handle. Others I have are from 70 442 and 70 F-85 and are also grey. Also, all of my Olds jack shafts are the larger/wider more tapered rectangle versions and not square like Oskars base.

Oskar, does your base have a U70 stamped into it? All mine have that and I have several 69 jacks with U69 stamped. I am not saying your base is incorrect it just looks closer to my 71-72 jack bases for my Chevy cars that are black and are not dated/stamped.

I know for '68 and '69 there were 4 different manufacturers for jacks and I suspect the same was true for 1970. And each manufacturer had their own jack column shape. The picture below shows 3 of the 4 different shapes. The grey one is out of my '68 4-4-2 (Lansing car). The black one is out of my '69 4-4-2 (Fremont car). The blue one is out of my '70 GTO (also a Fremont car). I have a friend with a '71 4-4-2 (Fremont car) whose jack base/column shape is the same as my '70 GTO. At one time I thought the jack column shape was related to which assembly plant the car came from, but now I believe it was just a toss up, depending upon availability.

I found this. I used the Federal Grey

On the 1970 Cutlass/ 442/ F85 406925 is the correct number for jack craddles. The base will have "U70" stamped on it. The "lift" will have the date code stamped on the rivet. (ie 0B for February 1970) Plasti-coat T-37 Federal Grey is an accurate colour for the lift, craddle and base. The shaft is plated in gold cad.

mine is grey as well for 1970. I used a rattle spray grey that matched perfectly - I'll see if I can find it. Might have been the Krylon or Rustoleum

My Fremont built '70 original jack base is black, the hook is dove gray, the lug wrench with the large "O" on the head is black, the mast mechanism is black, and the mast is plated in silver cadmium. I don't have a photo of the hook, but it still wears both the original white decal with red lettering and black rubber pad. Here is a before and after of the jack base.

My base doesn't have any stampings. Mine is a Fremont built Cutlass, and the jack assembly is just as ROCKET VAPOR described. Now, my dad did buy the car used from a Chevy dealer in California, so maybe it's not factory original.
