68 350 motor and 2 spd trans

Complete as pulled out of car, carb, water pump, PS pump, alternator, starter, everything. 2bbl motor. It ran fine until a tree jumped out in front of the car it was in. $400 or close offer picked up here in central NC. Sorry I also posted this in the "wanted" section by mistake.

What is the Julain Date code? It's the number located by the distributor. Also, what is the number on the front of the block above the water pump? Should be 381917 followed by number 1 or 2.

Thanks, but the engine you have is a SBO 350 from 68-70, not a 330. If the heads have a number 5, you have a decent 350. Good luck with the sale.

Really? This was a 1 owner car right up to the tree that had never left the town where it was purchased new. Not doubting you but they never said a word about the engine being changed. Only has 70,000+ miles on the car. But it is what it is. What indicates that it is a 350????

The # 395558 means the engine is an SBO 350, the number 2 designates the year of 68-70. This link may help you. http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofblk.htm#Blocks

Looking at the link you provided it seems to be a 350-----which "expert" compiled this information before I get shot out of the saddle again? Whatever it is its still for sale. Its a good motor & trans.

Don't worry, that 350 should sell quicker and for a couple of dollars more than if it were a 330. Post it on Craigslist as a Rocket 350 Gold motor. The guys running Dubs will come a running.

Not sure of the reference for this source, but trust me the references confirm these numbers to be a SBO 350. The 68-76 350 is a great engine, actually has a bigger bore than the BBO 400's. Smaller stroke which makes it a high revving screamer. A great engine to rebuild for good street or track performance and possibly easier to sell compared to the 330.

I'll still take the same money for it. Was running good when I pulled it out of the wrecked 65 which is still here. Wonder if I can edit this add?

FYI that 395558-2 block was used from 68-76 so it could be anything from a #5-#8 head motor.

You can edit your "first post" and change the title of the ad. I would provide the number on the heads, some people may want to know which kind they are. It's a raised number on the left side of the head.

I tried to edit it but couldn't change the title. Guess I will post a new add. As for heads---its a 2 bbl motor. I have a bunch of big block heads, B, C, J, E, some with some nice porting, 7/16 studs on some, but no one wants them either. Eventually I will do what someone else on here did----$15.00 a 100lbs at the shredder since I can't sell for a fair price........

you have to go to "ADVANCED EDIT" mode to get all the features.

So, you will sell to the scrap man for $15 a cwt, but not to your brothers in need?
Gwan cost them more?
Really?

The #2 block is w/o a doubt the 350, all of us experts say so.
The "2" at the block date location sort of indicates second [calendar] year of production, so
1967 late the 1st ones were made
therefore 2-45 would be day 45 of 1968

Check the block's VIN stamp for the real lowdown
Also, the oil fill tube number starts with the digit of the year of issue
8xxxxxx for 1968, etc. ["X" is any digit]

350 motor and 2spd trans #5 heads

Thanks Oct---I got it changed-----reason I mentioned the scrapper is because thats about the same money I have been offered for some parts. Plus "the checks in the mail" after pics, get shipping price, package, and the $$$ never come. Getting ready to relist a small block alum manifold that is already packed up for someone ready to go-----maybe they died as they no longer respond to messages..........If you don't want it, don't have the money, or whatever at least have the decency to say so.
