350 rocket
A location might help you, but I think the asking price is a bit on the high side.
Also all 68 442s came with 400s so if this 350 was in one either it wasn't original to the car or the car was a clone.
GLWS.

I know the guys are having a little fun with you, don't worry about it. The 350 Olds is a common engine. Since it needs to be rebuilt it can only be thought of as a complete core worth around 250-350 bucks.
lol its ok im not an olds guy....a guy owed me money and didnt have it so i got this engine instead. didnt know what price to put on it so just threw that on it. Im in springfield il...no thats not near chicago its in the center of the state. If ya tell me where to look for any numbers on the engine I will and let ya know. Not positive that came out of the 442.
There will be a large casting number on the block on the shelf behind the water pump. Also if you look at the engine from the left side there will be a machined pad just below #1 spark plug with some numbers stamped there. If it's a 68 it will read something like 38MXXXXXX.
3 = Oldsmobile
8 = the year (68)
M = the assembly plant (Lansing in this case)
X = the last 6 numbers of the VIN of the car it came out of
Again if it's a 350 for sure it won't be out of a 442. It COULD be a ram rod 350, but those are EXCEPTIONALLY rare. The only way to prove it would be to pull the heads and find the flat top pistons.
If it is an original 4 barrel engine it will be 10.25:1 compression (ram rod would be 10.5:1). If it's a 2 barrel engine it will be 9.0:1 compression.
There is no way to tell from any of the numbers which engine it is, just what size it is and what year it is.
